Was crushing conditioned malt for the first time yesterday and my drill smoked out. Is it harder for a mill to crush conditioned malt? Thanks. Luckily it's a harbor freight with the extra warranty......

I don't find that conditioned grain is harder to mill. However, milling wheat or wheat malt is incredibly tough to mill and extra power is required.

If you got the grain too wet it can be a lot harder because the crushed grain sticks to the rollers. This can happen if you add too much water or don't get the moisture spread throughout the grain evenly.

Probably what happened...but man, what a crush. Looked llike small popped popcorn pieces.
