Blue rye

Picked up a brewers best kit. 1lb of flacked rye looks off. Should i return it?

I would return it. Flaked rye doesn't look like that in my experience.

I wouldn't mess around with mold on Rye. Look up Ergot. Unless you want to make a beer that will give you hallucinations, convulsions and even death. Not to say that is ergot but I wouldn't risk it.

Hallucinations I wouldn't say no to, but the convulsions and death I try to avoid.

I joked with my girl friend about dry hopping with it to make a LSD beer.

Went to homebrew USA. Much more help full then the wine and cake store. They showed me there unground rye and what it looks like after. Spot on to what I had. Bubbling away in the fermenter now.

Next question.
After i siphoned off the trub I added more water to the pot. Little less than a gallon. Stired it up and let it settle again. Siphoned to my growler and pitched my yeast for my next brew.

Is this an ok practice?
