is it ok to put the fermenting cube in the water bath with the tap on?

I am about to put a fermenting bucket (a normal 5 gallon plastic one) in a water bath with the tap on it. I dont have any other option since all my 3 buckets have taps on them.

Is this okay? or will the wort be infected through the tap when I transfer it from primary to secondary fermenter?

I might worry too much but I dont want any surprises.

As long as the spigot is tightened properly so as not to leak & it's in the "off" position,no. It'll be fine.

A lot of folks wrap their spigots in sanitized layers or plastic wrap with rubberbands for added security.

That should have been "of" not or, stupid autocorrect.

This stuff.

Spray some sanitizer on the spigot, and a piece of this and wrap it around the spigot. Rubberband it in place. And the do a couple more layers.
