Co2 regulater keeps going up

I went out to pour myself a beer today only to find my regulator set at 40 psi. I had already carved it and not sure whats going on. It all started after I tried to bottle some from the keg but soon realized they gave me the wrong piece. I turned everything off and bled the keg then started from the beginning but it keeps doing it

Sounds like regulator creep - What kind of regulator do you have?

It sounds like the beer was burst carbed by being carbed up at 40 psi, and is overcarbed. Is that possible?

I should have looked before I posted shame on me. I saw you posted on someone before about over carbing yooper. I shut everything of and within 5 mins it was right back up. Can I save it or do I need to get a new one??

My reg did the same thing, I hooked it up to a set of gauges and nothing else, it creeped up. I replaced it with a Taprite, that has worked well.
