I'm late, but have a buddy that will give me some of his hops rhizomes. The shoots are 2-12" tall. Will they die if transferred? I'm hoping for hops next fall, not this fall. I live in northern Utah, and spring is late.

It'll be fine. I assume the rhizomes are from an established crown? I've dug up rhizomes from my crowns for replanting as late as June. You won't get that much growth and no hops but it's enough for them to get established and make it through the winter. If they are rhizomes that he has just planted, that should be ok too. Just make sure you dig deep enough to get all the roots (which should be easy at this point).
