Just brewed my fourth batch and was about to take an OG reading when I broke my hydrometer. :(

It was a Friday night. Out of town on Saturday. Home brew store is closed on Sunday. I've got to work all day Monday but *hope* to make it in to get a new hydrometer.

Before pitching my yeast, I collected a sample and have kept it covered. Can I successfully take an OG several days after brew day?

I don't see why not. nothing got in or got out! should be fine:tank:

you may want to shake it or stir it somehow.

The yeast should be the only thing to effect the gravity, so if there's none in there the sugars should still be there. Like LJ suggested, may be good to shake it up a little to make sure its uniform.
