I may be late to the party, but I'm glad I didn't miss it altogether. I'm a long time Petty fan but never got around to this album. Immediately, upon first listen, I was shocked at how great the tunes are. The style, the sound, just the whole vibe is simply fantastic. One great song after another. Obviously the style isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but as far as I'm concerned, it's just about the perfect blend of rock and blues. Petty's voice suits it perfectly, and the Heartbreaker's have never sounded better. The feel is generally up tempo and if you don't find yourself tappin' your toe or bobbin' your head you have no soul. There are a couple excellent slower, almost psychedelic songs that somehow don't seem out of place at all, and there's even a reggae tune, which while not my thing, still sounds very good.

I just hope that the band continues in this direction, and it will be a real shame if they stray from this sound. Some of these may have brief ads at the beginning, but they can be skipped and the tunes are worth it.
