Just started a batch of beer that calls for vanilla extract. I have some, but not enough. However, I DO have 1 bean. I'm thinking of just combining the two to get the right flavor, but what is the preferred method of using whole bean vanilla? I've never used it in a brew. Would i cut it and scrape out the seeds, or can i just toss the whole bean in my primary?? thanks for the advice!!:mug:

I would use the extract that you have and make a little more out of the bean that you have. Just split the bean lengthwise, scrape out the insides and soak everything (the inside stuff and the outer shell of the bean) in a little vodka for a couple days. Strain the liquid out and pitch that along with the extract you already have into your beer. Cheers! :mug:
