Was planning a nice little Winter Warmer and wanted to get an early start at the beginning of summer. I've never experimented with oak or bourbon in beer but really like Widmer's "Brrr" bourbon beer. So I set out doing resaerch on Russian Imperial Stouts and came up with a recipe to pay respect to Henry Thrale. The man tasked with supplying the Russian Czars with tasty beer. I read that H. Thrale & Co shipped their beer across the frigid Baltic in French Oak Barrels, so in this recipe I wanted to put 2 ounces of bourbon soaked French Oak spirals. I've read that most people soak them in 4 oz of Makers Mark for one week and then toss all of it into secondary, bourbon included. I may go with 2 oz for starters and work my way up.

Here is my recipe:

MALTS:
10 lbs 2 Row
4 lbs Marris Otter
1 lb Crystal Malt 60L
1 lb Honey
1 lb Chocolate Malt
1/2 lb Flaked Oats
1/4 lb Brown Malt
1/8 lb Black Patent
1/8 lb Roasted Barley

HOPS:
2.5 oz Bullion for 60 min
2.25 oz Challenger for 30 min
2 oz Fuggles for 15 min
1.75 oz Goldings for 15 min

Est OG: 1.090 TG: 1.022 IBU: 89 SRM: 43 ABV: 8.8
