Just emptied my first beer from a new oak barrel. I see lots of white spots floating in the rinse water, though when I racked the beer I didn't see any. Barrel bugs? Beer doesn't taste sour though it was only in for 2 weeks. It'll take a few weeks to get the kegged beer carbed, English mild.

If it is infected, any chance to save the barrel with acids or sulfur?

Wow. you put a mild in a new barrel? Sounds oaky. How did you prep the barrel for the beer?

I didn't want to find out I ruined a nice ris or iipa.

Prep was water swell and clean rinse. I didn't do any other acid or spirits.

Where did you get the barrel? Does the stuff look like yeast or mold?

Doesn't look like yeast to me. It had a very slow leak that stopped after rotated the barrel on the stand. Got the barrel new in Jan this year from barrelsonline.com. 5 gallon size.

It's my understanding that even new barrels can have brett or other things in them.
