i bottled my beer over 6 weeks ago. the beer tastes good, but it seems to be really carbonated. i get good head when i pour, but it tastes almost as if im drinking a soda.

what could this possibly be caused from?

We need more info
How long was it in the fermenter? You could have bottled before ferm. was complete
What is the beer and how much priming suger did you use

what temp did you bottle condition at?

Porter.

Fermented 4 weeks at 65-70 degrees
Bottled 6 weeks stored at 65-70 degrees

I used the priming sugar that came with the kit

Maybe the priming sugar wasn't mixed well enough in the beer. Did you use a bottling bucket? Did you add the sugar and give it a gentle swirl? Every time I bottle (rarely since I keg) I end up with a couple bottles that seem more carbonated than others.

The priming sugar that comes in kits, or even the small bags at the lhbs is too much for a 5 gallon batch. I use 3.2 oz for lower carbed beers, and 4.2 for high carbed beers, those packets are 5 oz, way too much. I bought a $20 digital scale & bought corn sugar in bulk.
