It's official, they've ruined the derby

Yet another formerly enjoyable public event ruined in the name of "public safety & security". The entrance to church hill looks just like airport security, "security guards" rummaging through women's purses and patting everyone down. Notice camcorders and cameras with detachable lenses are on the list along with umbrellas... WTF??? I guess they figure you can't get a pressure cooker inside a purse smaller than 12'' either, this is just ridiculous.

NOT PERMITTED FOR DERBY & OAKS CARRY-IN

• COOLERS (Styrofoam coolers, ice available at infield purchase points)

• CANS (any size or type), glass bottles or containers

• POP UP OR PATRON TENTS – no poles or stakes of any kind

• Camcorders

• Cameras with detachable lenses, or equipped with a lens that is 6” or longer

• Tripods

• Purses larger than 12” in any dimension

• Grills

• Alcoholic beverages

• Thermoses

• Backpacks

• Luggage (includes briefcases)

• Duffel bags

• Wagons

• Umbrellas

• Weapons (including knives)

• Fireworks, noisemakers, air horns, laser lights/pointers, mace or pepper sprays

I believe in the words spoken by the late P. Henry: "Give me my cooler full of beer or give me death."

You never know if you have too much security, only when you have too little.

I can't believe they're not allowing Weapons

Im afraid this is just the way life will be...

my purse is only 12 inches long in the fourth dimension. Is that ok?
