for the black metal fans if this never made your radar;

The band features Killjoy (Necrophagia), Fenriz (Darkthrone/Isengard), Satyr (Satyricon/Storm), Philip Anselmo (Pantera/Down/Superjoint Ritual), and Maniac (Mayhem).

not trying to spam....but one more,

probably the best metal band in Alaska at the moment; reminds me of early LOG/Hatebreed.. They blew 36 Crazyfists off the stage the last time i saw them open for them.

i really digged it at the 2 min mark, totally sweet groove there.. wouldn't mind if the vocals were turned up a bit.. they're almost being drowned out, pretty cool though. :)

I was just listening to Acid Bath last weekend, great band, I like the 90's grunge/sludge aspect to it too. I'd much rather listen to Acid Bath than Goatwhore, who I find kind of generic and uninspired. I've listened to a lot of Agents of Oblivion but I just can't get into it...

Here's a sampling of some of the bands in my local area:

Abnormality, brutal death metal, really tight guitar and bass work:

Abaroth, black metal, this song is a reference to the supposed Viking settlement in Newton, MA:

Scaphism, "ear raping death thrash", this song is a reference to the Sarlac in Return of the Jedi:

Black Pyramid, stoner doom, love this song, they're not as good IMO with a new singer sadly...

to make up for the more rock side... Isak; I love the rhythm of the bass drum in this track..

and not sure if you guys dig vinyl, but Amazon has a deal now that if you purchase some albums on vinyl, they're giving away the mp3 version with it! I think this is awesome myself (because i'm a vinyl wh*re).. although i was pissed when i found out because i wouldn't have bought the Yellow & Green CD!

Yeah, well that's just your opinion man...

Great thread. Opinions and all.

How many of you guys think Metallica is metal?
How about Iron Maiden?

Used to be before the black album, then they were abducted by aliens and replaced with emo alt rock fan boy cyborgs.

Yes!

lol

i'd say they're both metal; just more radio friendly then most. Although Metallica held the "Metal Torch" through the 80s, after the release of the Black album; they handed rightly off to Pantera....forever stronger than all.. :-(

so the other night we had a beer tasting in Anchorage and i was able to come home with an empty bomber of 3Floyds' 1st collaberation with eyehategod....so i took a pic of it in it's glory with my vinyl of the album :rockin:

I agree, I think your alien was disguised as a guy named Bob Rock.

IMO, the problem with the definition of what is "true" metal vs metal
is very subjective. The whole sub genre convolutes things even further.
Death vs Black vs Thrash vs Prog, etc, etc......

I myself have always been into bands like Kreator and Testament.
I like the technical "thrash" element of the music.

Anyhow, going to brew 2 batches this week and blast some music.

Okay, this is pretty sweet. Sci-fi-themed Alien-style metal music video.

Well they are all sober haha. I enjoy it for what it is. I never liked Sabbath with dio so I'm happy to hear new music from them with ozzy.

Wow man, that really sucks! Not surprising though since Ozzy is back I'm sure he has to control everything and ruin it at the same time. This is just terrible, it's like he's not even singing, just narrating. Everything else is flat, tired and uninspired as well. Pitiful.
