Viability declines pretty slowly in the fridge.

Yeah, I'm starting to think the viability loss in many of the yeast starter calculators is WAY over-estimating actual loss. I had a vial that was in the fridge for almost a year and yeastcalc.com was telling me I had essentially zero living cells left. I tried building up a starter anyways and, short of doing a cell count, it was pretty obvious there were a bunch of healthy, viable yeast in there.

I feel the same way. Woodland brew has some data suggesting the same thing.
