    Shelf Life of Kegged Beer

I've been kegging for about a year now. I have a two-keg kegarator. I would like to have a couple of kegs on hand so when a keg kicks I'll have another ready to go, keep the pipeline going. I'd be storing the kegged beer in my basement which averages about 60 degrees year round. I'm hoping that...

    Propane burner problem

Brewed another batch of Centennial Blonde yesterday. For some reason the burner (Blichmann Floor Burner) wouldn't put out enough BTU's to bring the wort, just under 7 gallons), to a rolling boil. The best it would do is just barely come to a boil. The propane tank was a little over half full. I...

    Mini/compact Fridge Fermentation Chamber Advise

I'm gearing up to build a fermentation chamber and have an old GE compact fridge that I'd like to use. It's one of the really small ones. Do you think it will do the job or do I need to get one of the larger mini fridge's? The chamber will be large enough to hold two carboys. It'll be in the...

    Belgium Caramel Pils

Hoping somebody who knows more about grains than me could offer some advise. I'm looking at an IPA recipe that I want to brew and it calls for Belgium Cara Pils. My LHBS doesn't carry it so I'm wondering if someone could recommend a grain to substitute. Thanks!

    Crushed Grain Shelf Life

Guys & was wondering how long you can keep crushed grain around without any adverse effects? This is of course presuming it's kept in a airtight & dry container. I keep mine in a 5 gallon bucket with the lid snapped on. I sometimes pick up my grain and grind it at my LHBS and don't end up using...

Sanitize muslin bags when dry hopping?

Just wondering if most people sanitize the muslin bags when dry hopping? I have not in the past and have not had any problems but don't know if I was just lucky and should be sanitizing them.

    Fremont Summer Ale

Need a little help here. The Fremont Brewery in Seattle is a small brewery that produces some excellent beers. My current favorite is their Summer Ale. The recipe consists of only two ingredients, pale 2 row and Amarillo hops. Obviously this beer is all about showcasing the hops, it has a very...

    Blichmann 7 gal conical

I'm looking at buying one of these. I need to use an electric fermentation heater due to the temp in the room used for fermenting. I haven't seen one of these in person but it looks like the legs would prevent you from using the heater. Does anybody have one and use a heater on it? Thanks.

    Dry vs Wet Lag time

Friday I brewed a batch of wheat ale and for the first time used dry yeast (safale US-05). In the past I've always used Wyeast smack packs. It's been a little over 48 hours now and there is no activity. Those of you, and I'm sure there are many, have you noticed a longer lag time with dry vs liquid?

    Pellet Hops

I've always used loose leaf hops however tomorrow I'm going to brew a batch (full volume boil) using pellet hops. Should I use a nylon/muslin bag like with the loose leaf or just dump them in? Thanks! Terry
