    Dump Valve Size

At what height should I install the thermowell? I often do 6 gallon batches. I want to make sure that the thermowell is submerged in the wort enough to get a reliable reading. Should it basically be installed at the same level as the dump valve?

    Dump Valve Size

much appreciated feedback! I do intend to address the lid at a future date. A thermowell has been on my mind, but not sure how long is necessary. Would a 6" suffice? I'll heed your advice regarding the dump valve and elbow. do you use a sight glass? do you just burp off the trub relatively...

    Dump Valve Size

I have a 14 gallon stainless fermenter that was given to me. Off brand/ DIY job. It has a funky threaded-on nut system on the bottom with a 1" ball valve dump. It doesn't work well, to say the least. I am going to have a TC ferule welded onto the bottom, with the more common butterfly valve...

    Stone Cali-Belgique clone

As a point of reference, I do not recall this beer being over carbed at the brewery. Fingers crossed your brew is delicious!!!

    Stone Cali-Belgique clone

Awesome work! Cali-Belgique is the beer I chose to fill a growler at Stone brewery after trying everything they had on tap. Love this beer. Wish it were more commonly found. Let us know your thoughts. What temp did you mash at? Mash out?

Specialty IPA: Belgian IPA Belgian Earthquake(Belgian IPA)

How long of a boil did you guys do? That would definitely affect the bittering. Also my experience has been that citra gets catty when used early in the boil. Does that come through in your beer? This looks like a great recipe.

    BIAB, under the bag hopping

Isn't that hop steeping? Saw it mentioned here the other day. Let us know the outcome. What recipe? What hop(s)? Pellet or whole?

First time All-grain BIAB, with photos

Thanks for sharing your nightmare! I had a similar experience the first time I BIAB solo. Was running around, stressed out for three hours. Turned out ok, but not great. If you haven't already, check out the BIAB section. The mash out discussion is over there. Really just depends on your...

Determing mash temp if none is given?

Thanks Yoop! The original thread from the Aussies says we should mash out to convert sugars. I'm no biologist, nor a physicist. I'm in the garage making beer. I appreciate your experience and input.

First attempt at BIAB, have a couple questions.

No worries. As any of us that have been here for even a short while would notice; some people sometimes get butt hurt over the most mundane of details in jargon. Best to tread lightly. Life is good. Beer is good. Have fun. Brew often.
