Looking for a really low false bottom

I have a slightly different situation, but I made my false bottom from tubing by drilling holes in it and coiling it on the bottom of my mash tun like an eye on an electric stove. Make sure the tubing is made to handle hot or cold water, some is for cold only. I made the mash ton by putting a...

Mysterious film on top of cider

I had that once when I got enough juice to fill one and a half carboys. The half full one developed a white film and made a very excellent vinegar. I transferred into wine bottles and my wife loves to cook with it. My sister and brother-in-law are both chefs and love it as well. It is better...

    Noob question...

I have both. Glass will clean, well....clean. Plastic can sometimes keep residual aromas and such, so I have plastic designated for stouts only, apple wine/cider only, and whites only. Both have pros and cons, but do be sure to get the harness and make sure you do not get a clogged airlock...

    Heat applied to a boil

I second what Arc said, energy input can make a large difference. Also, the more you boil off the higher your ABV, since you are concentrating the sugars who like salt do not boil off. I mash extra to boil off about a fifth of my oatmeal stout in order to run up the ABV and thicken it up a...

    Sugestions for hop combinations

The easiest way to explain what I am looking for is to say I want something Summer Shandy-ish, only without adding any fruit. I have started with a very simple heffe recipe, only I changed the aroma hops to sorachi ace. What would be a good bittering hop that would give me a good base flavor...

Mysterious film on top of cider

If you had the same white film I did then congratulations on making a really really good vinegar. I bottled mine and kept some to cook with. The rest I split among 4 chef friends of mine and quickly received requests for more, although I will not be purposely making any more. I think my issue...

    GF American Stout

Awesome! My wife is allergic to wheat, where did you find those ingredients? Did you have to prep anything yourself? i.e. roasting your own grains?

    Coated wine bottles

I can not see your picture so I can not speak to the texture, but have you tried a flat black primer that will stick to glass? Unless the coating on the bottles you are speaking of "scratches" off, it could be a ceramic type of coating that has to be baked on with a kiln, but would not scratch...

What is up with Winemakers superiority to brewers?

Does the beer making for dummies have jokes about winemakers?

Using a pumpkin as a fermentor?

I am not a wine drinker, but if you made wine this way you could serve directly from the pumpkin since wine is not carbonated. Just need a valve at the bottom. Now that I think about it I may do this the week before thanksgiving to serve the family wine with thanksgiving dinner. ooooooo I can...

Did anyone know about this place?

Deep South Brewing Supply, LLC 1283 Newell Parkway Montgomery, AL, 36110 Phone: 334-260-0148 Without "homebrew" in their name I could not find them on Google. I found them on a list of vendors for Lalvin yeasts. Homebrew Montgomery Alabama
