    "Sour" beers not sour enough...

What has your final gravity been on these beers?

    "Sour" beers not sour enough...

That's good to know. I have one consistent De Garde yeast cake that has produced the best beers, and others have been less than stellar. I wonder if it is natural condition versus wine yeast additions? I may have to dig into it and see if certain series use wine yeast or not.

    "Sour" beers not sour enough...

I have about 50 gallons of different sour beers under my belt, and the best advice I can offer is to mash high (158-159 depending on recipe) harvest dregs from your favorite wild/sour offering, build it up, and continually pitch on top of the old yeast cake. That same community of microbes will...

    Custom tap handles

Very similar to what I made for a homebrew competition last year, but I used a wood burning tool to etch the letters in.

Adding Tart Cherries to Brett Saison Question

I contemplated using dehydrated cherries, but I found they normally contain other additives (e.g. Sunflower oil) which could impact the beer's head and possible taste. So, I opted for a bottle of organic tart cherry concentrate from Amazon, and some bags of frozen tart cherries. Next time, I...

Monster Mill 2 Pro Drill Options

I'm using this guy. Went with the extra amps to help with the low speeds and higher torque. http://m.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-10-Amp-1-2-in-Corded-Drill/4166003

    Cedar Bar/Keezer Build

Sweet baby Jesus that thing will look sweet, love that cedar slab. Man it'd make me nervous as hell leaving something that looks like that outside. No telling what all the salt content/humidity in the air could do to it. Hell I'd set my TV on it if nothing else, just to keep it inside.

    Soup can hop spider?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that soup cans still contain BPA. Which is more of a hazard when heated.

    Rust on SS weld

Well I am no SS welding expert myself, but if I remember correctly, getting stainless too hot can change the properties stainless has (eg not rusting). Or there is also another possibility that maybe the incorrect form welding was performed. I once welded (MIG) some hinges on a stainless keg...

Sight glass for keggle with bulged sides?

Finally got the chance to brew again the other day and decided I'm going to finally do a few upgrades to my equipment. I'm having trouble finding a sight glass that fits sanke kegs with a bulge. Does anyone have an idea where I can find one? Any help is greatly appreciated.

My ghetto basement exhaust hood setup

I still think it would be a good idea to throw a Carbon Monoxide detector in there just for safe measures. You can pick one up at Walmart for like $15, and while ya may not be exposed long enough to do a whole lot of damage, it can still make ya sick as hell. Pretty sweet set up though.

    Drilling SS - Help

I have used a screw many many times in the past and it has never failed, which is much cheaper than a new bit. Lubrication is key when working with stainless.

    Halloween idea

I'm getting married in a little over a month and am gonna have my taps mounted onto a large pumpkin. Not exactly the same but kinda the same principle. Since it is a fall theme, I will have Oktoberfest, pumpkin ale and a winter ale on tap.

    Drilling SS - Help

To save you a few bucks buy a few self tapping screws to get a hole started. Not the cheap chrome coated ones, but 5/16 head screws used for applying metal roofs. Once you break through the metal, go slow and steady like previously discussed. You will ruin several bits trying to get through the...

Ah thank you. That answered my question right there.

    Steel Choice for Weldless Brewstand

Sanding would work if you we're using a grinder or something like that. Since most galvanized metal is hot dipped, and not just simply painted on, it would be hard to sand it off any other way. I would still wear some sort of respiratory protection while grinding it off though.
