Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

That's exactly what it means, yes.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

I didn't use any either, but I do recall a pretty slow sparge. I might throw a half pound in next time, just to be safe. As ilikeguns said, it will depend upon your equipment and your crush. You know your setup best, and throwing some hulls in won't hurt if you're worried about getting a stuck...

    I used S04 - it was wonderful.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

I used US-05 in mine and it turned out great. 007 would be good too.

Tower of Power in a HERMS Configuration?

I wouldn't think you'd need two units for a HERMS. I was just rethinking my probe placement, and if you put the probe in the HLT only, then just measured the temp differential between the HLT and HERMS output, you should be able to hold the temp where you want it. You'd only need 2 of the units...

Tower of Power in a HERMS Configuration?

Glad I'm not the only one. My sense is it would be no different than a regular HERMS, but with the temp probe at the exit from the HERMS coil for the TOP. It's just a bit more money than I'm willing to experiment with.

I hear you, John. Thanks again for being my first stop for hops. Hell, for specialty malts too!

FHBS - Black Hops Sale 2012!

If I click my heels together three times and ask for pounds of Amarillo, will those appear, too? I so need one.

Yep, you guys are the best! Always my first choice for hops (and specialty grains, for that matter!)

    2012 Simcoe In Stock!

I don't think we're taking away any of their business. Given the shortage, I'd say let's all help each other out.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

Yep, I know. I just prefered your hop and mash schedules to that of the clone.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

Great minds think alike! I just pitched 2 packages of US-05 into a 5.5 gallon batch of this one myself. I made a few minor changes, mostly moving the late additions to 15 instead of 25 minutes, per Scottland's version posted here. I also upped the rye to 2lbs, just because that was how much I...

Tower of Power in a HERMS Configuration?

I'm working on designing an upgrade to my brewing system and want to go with HERMS. While I would love to build my own control panel to control the flame to the HLT/HEX, I barely can make time to brew much less start a major project like that. I've been thinking about using a Tower of Power...

I opted not to brew today on my new Setup - Instead I dialed in all my settings

Ok, let me rephrase my answer. That test is fine if the question is "did I calibrate my equipment as I should per Beer Tools?" Here you seem to lump the results of the test above with a question about whether or not you should insulate. Either way, the answer to "is it ok to apply heat to...
