    Phil's False bottom for my kettle?

    I'm looking to do the same thing now. I'm really curious about the pellet clogging issue. Not sure how I feel about silicone tubing. Williams Brewing sells thermoplastic tubing thats good up un to 275*F.

    Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout (2011 HBT Competition Category Winner)

    Vanilla sounds like a great addition to this. I've done two vanilla porters now, both at 1.075~ and two beans in the secondary for 1-2 weeks does a nice job. Not too over powering, but noticeable. I'd imagine that one the gravity goes up the vanilla should as well. P.s. I always soak my...

    using aquarium pump for aeration.

    Will do. Just soak in my sanitizer and use wet?

    using aquarium pump for aeration.

    That's very helpful. Thanks. I like the sanitized bucket idea, any extra measure is worth it. I was also going to use a couple of grain bags folded over many times over the inlet of the pump. I figure that will take care of any dust and other larger things.

    using aquarium pump for aeration.

    Im looking for a quick fix for this weekend. I'm brewing my first REALLY high gravity beer and I have no method of aeration or oxygenation. Can you guys tell me what I can buy in the direction of an aquarium pump and filter to just get me by until I can upgrade? is a Stone needed? What exactly...

    Hey guys. I plan on making a modified version of this recipe. I made a new thread for the questions I had since it's a different beer. I'd appreciate it if you'd read this and lend any advice you can. Thanks a lot. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/advice-hefty-ris-292603/#post3637925

    Advice for a hefty RIS.

    Also I of course plan on making a big starter, but I don't have an aeration system. I was thinking I could take my auto siphon and pump air through it.. what do you guys think?

    Advice for a hefty RIS.

    Hey, I'm brewing a pretty well modified version of a beer that can be found here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f68/russian-imperial-stout-2011-hbt-competition-category-winner-238807/ My plan is to make this a spiced stout. I've been tossing around the idea of Star of Anise. Or perhaps...

    I cloned a monster!...

    Well that malt/extract bill has a lot going on it seems. I know it's all light stuff but if it were me I'd definitely ditch the corn sugar, do a partial mash with a pound of Carmel 30, and as much 2 row as you have room for, then make up the difference with light DME. I didn't use any Fuggles...

    I cloned a monster!...

    Well, the mottenstein... Or whatever has been brewed, bottled, and drank. I think it came out great, the obvious differences were mouth feel and bitterness. Everything else was extremely close. Two of my friends liked it so much they are actually paying me two brew it for them. I'm going to brew...

    I cloned a monster!...

    Yea simcoe has been GONE! I had to drive an hour and a half. I was at my lhbs today tho and they said they were getting some in. Hopefully the drought is over. I just bottled it and it tastes REALLY close. From my memory anyways. When it's ready and carbonated I'll drink one along side the real...

    I cloned a monster!...

    I'll be bottling tomorrow. It's been cold crashing for a few days now. It looks right and it smells dead on, so we'll see. I'll let you know what it's like tomorrow, and then what it's like after a couple weeks.

    Propagating from Hop Cuttings

    Any insight to my question? Am I too late for this year?

    Propagating from Hop Cuttings

    So I think I've got the process down, but my question is, is it too late to do this? Some friends I have who live in MI are driving through south of Chicago where I live and they offered to bring me clippings and rhizomes. Can I shove the roots in the ground and expect to see something next...

    I cloned a monster!...

    I think it's a great book, well maybe aside from the IBU equation... Have you tried any of the recipes in it? I have not. Anyways, I'm going to keep it sealed up until fermentation is all done. I'll post when I taste it. When did you Bree this? Recently?

    I cloned a monster!...

    Yes I brewed the hopville recipe. When I do the calculations by hand from that hop schedule I get 110 IBUs. I got the equation from a book called the Brewmaster's Bible. That book tells you to multiply the oz of hops by it's alpha acid %. Then multiply that by the utilization% which is given in...

    I cloned a monster!...

    I brewed this on thursday. Everything went really well. I had people over and had a BBQ, it was a great day. Out of the hundreds of things I felt like I had to do that day I only forgot one. Unfortunately a pretty important one. I didn't take an OG reading. Not exactly heart broken tho. One...
