    Ticks

So yesterday after working out, I go to shower and notice a weird dark speck above my hip. Yep, turned out to be a tick. Luckily, it was young, not engorged and pulled off very easily. Just left a pink spot the size of a hive. I think it got on me Monday afternoon from gardening. Now I have...

    Storm Chasers cancelled

Apparently, Discovery has cancelled Storm Chasers. Nothing official yet, but the guys from the show have been announcing it on their sites. Same old reasons - too expensive to make and ratings not high enough. Yet another one of my favorite shows gone :-(

    Free Sierra Nevada T-shirt

If anyone buys this, there's an offer to get a free t-shirt. The catch is you have to be doing an outdoor activity and a can or bottle has to be in the picture, *but* you can't actually be drinking and no minors can be in the photo. Here's the site: www.palealecan.com Now, I need to figure...

New ways to get drunk . . .

My husband told me he read this in the news and found an article myself. http://www.khou.com/featured-content/138650964.html Back in the day, it was sneaking vodka in water bottles at school, but I guess the open container bans rule that out . . .now it's tampons?! Just imagine...

    Mmm Guacamole

This is just about the best guacamole I've ever had, and my mouth is watering because I'm making a double batch tomorrow. Thought I would share. Now I just have to figure out which beer will go with it best . . . Ingredients 3 Hass avocados - peeled, pitted, and mashed 1 lime, juiced 1...

    Any Anthony Bourdain Fans?

I just love his show. I finally got around to watching the Christmas special that aired last week. The Samantha Brown part was awesome lol Best to watch his show when drinking, especially when he's downing whole bottles of vodka in Russia.

    Free Stella Artois Chalice

Not sure if I saw any posts on this, but Stella Artois is giving away free chalices. Here's the site with details http://www.stellaartois.com/1-800-my-chalice-4108. You'll need to call 1-800-692-4254, enter you age (not dob), wait for menu options and press 3. I was on hold for about 6 mins...

american wheat ale at low temps?

I'm planning on making one of the AHS American style wheat ale kits. Since my brew room is now in the low 60s, I was going to get some of the notty yeast since it's cold tolerant. Will this fit the style? As I understand it, American styles are supposed to have a cleaner yeast flavor than their...

    no secondary really is great

I have always used a secondary and decided this time around to only use a primary. Works great! I've never seen my batch so clear. I tried it on the AHS Texas blonde kit. Can't wait to taste it! Now I just need more primaries. I have 2 primaries (1-6.5 gal carboy and 1-6w gal carboy) and 2-5...

    For any Netflix Subscribers

Apparently, there's a lawsuit for Netflix collusion on new dvd rentals with Walmart. I think current and former Netflix received an email about it this week but in case you haven't, here's the site for submitting a claim form: https://onlinedvdclass.com/

    Any experience with Sharp TVs?

I'm looking through leaked black friday ads and there's a couple 60" Sharp LCD TVs. There's one at Best Buy for $799 and another at BJ's for $899. I'm only going for the Best Buy if it's available online (it's a non-doorbuster, so maybe). Anyone have a Sharp? How is it?

    Extract Recipe Books

Okay, so I'm coming up with a christmas gift list for others, and I'm asking for homebrew recipe books. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm interested in ones that cover mostly extract recipes (partial mash is okay too). I do partial boils. Here's a couple that look decent...

    Ughh teenagers

Long story short, the husband's younger 18 year old sister got into some big fight with the parents. So, she decides to march down the road in the pitch black darkness with a suitcase (she's was supposed go back to college in oneonta tonight) and hitch hikes to our house (we're about 5 mins...

    AHS grain bag?

I'm thinking about trying out recipes from the recipe database here and on hopville. I see that AHS has an area on their site to order base grains and combine others in one bag. Is their grain packed in a muslin bag like in their kits? Or do I need to order a grain bag? I plan on making...

    Bottled Water for Extract Brewing

I realize in extract brewing it's debatable whether spring water is even necessary since the process of creating malt extract imparts some minerals and there's a double water profile as a result. Since I haven't had a problem with Wal-mart's spring water, I've continued to use it. Being it's...

    BBC Steel Rail EPA

I see that this topic has been discussed before, but I don't think anyone has ever come up with a clone for Berkshire Brewing Company's Steel Rail EPA. Does anyone have a recipe that comes close or a kit recommendation? Unfortunately, I can't get this stuff in NY. Their site doesn't say what...

Wil Wheaton is a homebrewer and reads HBT

I just joined Google+ last week and noticed that it recommended adding Wil Wheaton to my circle. Confused, I added him and found out he's a homebrewer and covers quite a few of his brews in his posts. He also links to HBT on his website, http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/ Okay, I admit I was...

    Interesting Article on "Miracle Fruit"

I saw this on NPR - http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2011/09/26/140810599/how-a-small-red-fruit-performs-taste-miracles-for-flavor-trippers?print=1 Wikipedia says that people are hosting parties to try different foods and drinks including beer...

    NB instructions

I have been ordering kits from AHS to get a feel of the styles I can make. I'm tempted to buy the NB honey brown ale kit, but I'm not so sure about their instructions. Here's the link: http://www.northernbrewer.com/default/honey-brown-ale-extract-kit-1.html 1) It says to steep the grains in...
