Cannot overcome my Hazy IPA oxidation problem!!

Has anyone detected oxidation issues without visible darkening of the beer? I'm noticing a muted hop flavor and some weird vegetal flavors in a kegged neipa after two weeks, without any noticeable darkening. I tried it a few days after kegging and the only thing that seemed off was a bit of a...

    Hops Direct

I just noticed the same thing. Shipping was showing as $38 for 6lbs of hops. I asked about it, and they said it seemed high and asked me to leave a note in the order for them to check. They ended up charging $22 for shipping. Since they are mostly leaf hops, the packages are a little bulky...

    2013 Hop garden photo thread

I've had some mutant hops like that before. My favorite was the double cascade from a few years ago.

New post a picture of your pint

You just have to use a few tricks to make sure it doesn't end up too thin or bitter. I've made this recipe twice, using this as guidance. 1. Mash between 155-160 2. Use English yeast with lower attenuation (I used S-04) 3. Use flavorful base malts (This recipe used Vienna malt) 4. Add all...

    2013 Hop garden photo thread

I've got 2 cascade plants and 1 Centennial plant all in their 4th year. This is probably the best they have ever grown. I think last year's cool and rainy May/June caused more aphid damage and slower growth. This year we have had more sun, but I still have only watered the hops a few times this...

    How many inches per day?

4th year, although it has looked pretty much like this since its second year. The rope is about as thick as my pinky finger, and the bine is just a little bit thinner.

    How many inches per day?

I measured a growth last year of about 10 inches in one day, although that was an abnormally warm and sunny spring . Just yesterday afternoon I marked one of my centennial bines, and it grew about 5 inches. This is a fun way to actually track how fast these grow.

    Rhizome trade

I have 2 Mt hood plants that have really not yielded much in the 4 years they have been in the ground. Their bine growth has been extremely strong and more vigorous than my centennial and cascade, but it just doesn't seem to produce many cones. I would like to trade some jumbo Mt hood...

    Brett/Sour BIF Trade

Just checking interest in setting up a BIF (Beer it forward) focused on sour/funky beers. We could setup a few guidelines to make sure the trades are relatively even, but we probably don't need too many rules. I was thinking of a shipping date of December 17th or 18th. Post if your interested...

    Pellicle Photo Collection

1 gallon of pale sour with 1.5 lb of peaches. The base beer only had a thin pellicle with bubbles during secondary. A few weeks after moving to a one gallon carboy and adding peaches, this started to grow.

    white mold on fruit beer

A few weeks after adding fruit to a portion of pale sour beer, i noticed some white mold hanging out on top of the fruit. I never noticed any mold during the beer's 8 months in secondary. I don't plan on touching it for a while, I'm just curious if this is common.

Scotch bonnet and habeneros in beer

Last year I made a balanced amber ale with just a touch of aroma hops and some toasted malt. I added two large dried new mexico chiles to one gallon of it in secondary, and 2 smaller fresh grilled Jalapenos to a separate one gallon carboy. The new mexico chile version had a good chile flavor but...

    Head space concerns for secondary

I brewed my first sour beer about a month ago, and it has been in secondary for about two weeks. I purposely mashed high so the SG after 3 weeks was around 1.016. My main concern is that the beer level goes just up to where the carboy starts to taper in, probably about 3/4 of a gallon from being...

    Water Bath Temp

I do this in large rubbermaid tubs, probably like 20 gallons. The temperature of the stick on thermometer is very close 2-3 degrees from the water temp. I usually fill the water about 2/3 of the way up the bucket, with the thermometer just above the water line. If the tank is fairly large, it...
