Installing a plug straight on kettle

Take a look at "generator inlet" plugs. They are male plugs that are installed in a receptacle box. Or a flanged inlet plug. They are available in 120V and 240V, most likely the way I'm headed with my rebuild.

Installing a plug straight on kettle

This is a picture of my kettle. Not the best picture but in lower right you can see I came off element and out of metal box with a cord and plug. My thought at the time was to make the kettle an appliance and plug it into extension cord. I have since disassembled the kettle and I'm working on...

Danstar BRY-97 American West Coast Yeast: A Review

Reviving an old thread. I just made a Rye PA using this yeast for first time. It took almost 48 hours before some activity was noticeable. This thread saved me from pitching more yeast. Thanks.

Have you ever boiled AG batch less than 60 min?

Just deemed a name for the brew, think I'll call it my 30-30 (Winchester) Ale! Regardless of the recipe.

Have you ever boiled AG batch less than 60 min?

Yup I agree having a control batch that I can compare the 30 min boil against would be best way to do it. The other thinking is if I do a 30 min boil and it tastes fine to me then so be it. Cheers!

Have you ever boiled AG batch less than 60 min?

Well I'm glad to hear some of these responses. I'm going to stick with my plan to do 1 gallon batches and only boil for 20-30 min tops. I have no plans to use pilsner malt and I'm not going for hoppy beers, but if I do want a hoppy beer I know I have to increase my hops based on shorter boil...

Have you ever boiled AG batch less than 60 min?

I know there will be people hitting this from the technical stand point but..... I'm just curious has anyone ever boiled an all-grain batch for less than 60 minutes just to see what happens? If so what was the end result? Thinking about trying this myself on a 1 gallon batch just to get...

    Gravity Issue

Son of a gun think you figured it out for me. When I took my sample for preboil it pulled from mash tun run off and not at end after I was finished and mixed well (guess I won't do that again!). Numbers still seem funny. Guess I have to chaulk this up to bad technique. Oh well I'll still get...

    Gravity Issue

I agree. My preboil was a little less than recipe stated but okay no biggie but when my OG reading was less than preboil that threw me for a loop. No top off water all grain batch 5 gallons, managed to hit that right on the money!! Thinking about shaking carboy tomorrow morning to mix and...

    Gravity Issue

Brewed a batch of Irish Red this morning and had some gravity issues I don't understand. Recipe was pretty simple and my beer software had a preboil gravity of 1.046... My measurement was 1.042. The post boil gravity was suppose to be 1.056. I measured 1.040. Both samples were 70* No clue why...

    Cold Crashing US-05

I currently have a pale ale in primary and plan to bottle this weekend. I feel like there is a lot of the yeast cake floating in solution at the bottom of the fermenter. I would like to cold crash the fermenter to have the cake fall out of suspension but was curious how that would effect...

    Looking for YARDs IPA clone

A couple weekends ago I had a Yards IPA and thought it was very good. Did a search on here and didn't see any clone ideas. Any Yards fans have a clone recipe for this one?? I'd really like to give it a shot.

    Red IPA Attempt

Sounds good, see how it turns out. I was just curious what your thinking was, experimenting is the best part of brewing.

    Red IPA Attempt

Why Marris Otter and not a Pale Malt? I made a 5 gallon batch of Red Ale that had the following: 7.4 lb Pale Ale 8oz CaraMunich 8oz Crystal 80L 8oz Crystal 120L 2.08oz Barley (Roasted) Turned out very nice with a deep dark red color.

BIAB using smaller kettle, adding top off water to fermenter???

I have done a couple BIAB batches in the past using the "standard" BIAB methods. I was wondering has anyone done a BIAB using a smaller kettle lets say 16 quart making a concentrated wort and topping up fermenter with water to desired volume? This weekend I'm planning on brewing a 3 gallon...

how often do you clean your keg lines and faucets?

I made one of these also, it works great! I use the pump at the end of every weekend and push StarSan solution through the lines and faucets. I know weekly is a PITA but it is easy with the DIY pump and it also helps prevent my non-perlick faucets to cease!

    Mr Beer Octoberfest, Vienna lager

I would agree about only adding the 2 row keep the specialties out of it so you don't get an odd tasting Octoberfest. Is the Mr. Beer Octoberfest Hopped or Unhopped? I would go ahead with your mini mash idea, add the Mr. Beer can like any other extract and throw in some of the fuggles and call...

First AG Recipe Attempt (Pumpkin Ale)

Well I brewed this yesterday, we shall see how it turns out. My gravity sample was pretty tasty and it has a nice deep dark amber color.

First AG Recipe Attempt (Pumpkin Ale)

So I'm gearing up for Fall and decided why not try my hand at my first recipe from scratch for a Pumpkin Ale. My initial recipe included Smoked Malt instead of the Roasted Barley but my LHBS talked me out of using Smoked Malt. I'd like to hear any feedback about the recipe as well as should I...
