    How Much LME?

I've been making sugar washes with turbo yeast to make "wine coolers" and things like that for the wife, was wondering how I could make something like this but more like a beer. I'm going to stay clear of the turbo yeast for this one and try distillers yeast. How much LME (5 gallon batch) would...

    Commercial Beer Yeast Harvest List

I harvested some yeast from Sam Adams Oktoberfest a few months ago. Some folks on here said the filtered there beers but the couple 6 packs I bought had sediment so I tossed it in a small starter and built it up. I found another couple 6 packs at a store in the city last week and they had...

You need to tell us more. OG, FG, how much priming sugar and what temps your bottle conditioning at will help.

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

You can mash with less water and top off after the mash. Sparging through the pulled grain would be the best option for efficiency, but not really necessary. I just top up while after I mash out. BTW, depending how big a beer your making, you'll never be able to mash with 8.5 gallons. My...

    6 pack trade anyone

I can't be included in this round. Due to working 80+hrs/week all winter, a new baby a month ago, and ****ty town water I haven't brewed since Halloween. I need to find some charcoal or carbon block filters for the filter setup I bought from brewmasters warehouse to filter my brewing water. I'm...

    6 pack trade anyone

You don't send to a dozen. You send a 12 pack (with return postage) to the guy organizing the trade off. He sends you a 12 pack, 1 beer for every participant.

    6 pack trade anyone

I saw something like this on a fly tying forum which might be an idea for this. They had a little "wooly bugger" trade. There were 12 guys participating, each guy made 12 identical flies, there own version of a wooly bugger fly. They tagged each fly with their username and mailed them to the...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Not sure if this is of any help to you guys but I'll post anyway. Around here you can get 2l brew kits for around $5, this was my first homebrewing attempt. They come in a 2l soda bottle and have a small yeast tablet and airlock cap included, you just unscrew the normal soda bottle cap, drop in...

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

From what I've read (I may be completely wrong here, maybe mysticmead or someone more experienced than me can chime in) you aren't supposed to raise and hold temps at 170f for mashout. The proper way to mashout is to raise from mash temps to 170f over a 10 minute period.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

This is false. Why is open fermentation only ok for those styles? There are lots of breweries out there using open fermentation for all kinds of beers. Open fermentation is very popular for large scale breweries in UK and Germany. If you've ever had anything from ringwood or wychwood breweries...

A good way to get started?

Exactly. This controller would be just as easy/difficult as heating strike water with a propane burner. I use a propane burner right now, and love it other than the cold weather. I'll probably end up with a controller like this to simply be able to move my brewing into the basement.

I always direct fire during the mash but like everyone said - just low heat. I don't usually stir while heating, I "bob" the bag up and down. Works like a charm and I've never burned/scorched the bag.

whats the worst brewing accident you have witnessed or been a part of?

I did this lots without any problems, I'd always swish a mouthful of vodka first. If it does get infected I'd bet it's another problem.

    Need advice on my wife.

I think you should stand your ground. It won't get you any brownie points but sounds like she was well aware of what she was getting into when you married her. Your relationship sounds much like me and my wife to be. My woman doesn't mind me drinking often, because I don't get drunk often. As...

    Yeast Recovery

Ok. So you'd use 1/2 gallon jug, rubber stopper with 2 holes, one for blow off tube in, the other an airlock. Good top crop infection free yeast.
