Historical Beer: Kentucky Common "Kiss Yer Cousin" Rye Kentucky Common Ale

I remember seeing in the past that you were involved in vintage base ball. A friend of mine runs a team in Massachusetts, the Essex Base Ball Club. Ever travel out East for games? I was watching a game a few weeks ago and I decided to make a beer for the team and this one popped up. Glad it...

Welcome from Haverhill. Definitely check out the club above. I joined up with them over the summer and like Jeff says they are good guys that will definitely help future brews.

    Difference?

Sorry, I should have been more detailed. Can they be substituted for each other? I did one recipe using the LME and another using the DME (2 different beers), so I want to know if I can just buy a bulk amount of the DME that I can use in both recipes. Thanks for the quick response earlier.

    Difference?

Is there a difference between Extra Pale LME and Extra Light DME? If it matters, the LME is whatever AHS sells and the DME is Munton's. Thanks

My score cards just arrived in the mail from my first competition!

Yesterday, I got my scores back from my first competition. It was the New England Regional Homebrew Competition at Red Hook in Portsmouth, NH. I entered the All-Amarillo IPA that is in the Recipe section on HBT. My average score was 36.5, a 36 from one judge and a 37 from the other. I would have...

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

I entered this beer into the New England Regional Homebrew competition a couple of weeks back. My results came in the mail yesterday and even though I did not place, I got scores of 36 and 37, or 36.5 Overall. Pretty happy with the results for my first competition and my first try at an IPA.

    Beerplosion!

In honor of this absence of procedure, I present my first beerplosion... Luckily the whole lid gave out instead of just the airlock. I did not measure, but the lid was a good 5 feet away!

    Converting Recipes?

I found a clone recipe of Rogue's Old Crustacean online. The version that I found was an All-Grain recipe, but unfortunately, I am only up to extract recipes with steeping grains. When I use Beersmith to convert from AG to Extract, it gives me a message about converting the Munich Malt manually...

    Primary Lid Exploded Off

This was my Amarillo IPA last week. I got the lid cleaned, sanitized, and back on the same day it happened, so I am hoping for no infections.

If my whole lid blew off, should I consider myself just as lucky regarding contamination?

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

Normally I am not a big IPA fan, but someone I know made this beer and I enjoyed it tremendously. So I made a batch on Wednesday and this is what I came home to on Thursday afternoon... The LHBS was out of Safale-05 so I used 04 instead...I doubt that would have that much effect on the...
