NEW Product Announcement - Spike Grain Mill

For what it's worth, the holes on mine lined up well enough that I could get the screws in without any drilling. So there might be some part-to-part variation, not on every bucked adapter.

    Spike mill in the wild

Just got mine as well, planning on using it this weekend for a Czech Pale Lager!

Show me pics of your dedicated brewing rooms!

How do they work? Are they building pressure as you ferment? (I guess not, since the gf conical can only handle a little bit of pressure right?)

What are the green containers that your fermentor blow-offs connect to?

    Verdant in American/West Coast IPA?

That worked out fine for me. OG 1.060, FG 1.011, 81% Apparent Attenuation.

    Verdant in American/West Coast IPA?

I used Verdant in an IPA that was designed as a west-coast. Came out delicious, great esters and hop character, getting lots of compliments on it. However, despite the use of Clearzyme, Silafine, and a good cold crash, it's never cleared. So if that's something you need in a west coast, try a...

NEW Product Launch - Bottom Draining Kettles

Ooh, glycol chiller... is that breaking news here?

    Interesting pump flow discovery/idea

If you don't need the right-angle configuration, you can check out SSBrewTech's linear valves. They are definitely bidirectional, and also are easy to clean.

    Interesting pump flow discovery/idea

Oh, maybe it's not a problem with letting flow through, as much as a problem with blocking flow. The seals are on the movable part, that slides forward into the cylinder. It might not seal between the "output" and the threaded side with the knob. Maybe it leaks if you turn it off and apply...

    Interesting pump flow discovery/idea

What’s interesting is that the valves I got (with Bobby’s BIAB system) had no clips at all.

    Understanding the Auber EZboil DSPR-320

I agree you're unlikely to change it often. But I used it the first time in F because I didn't get around to changing it yet, and the second brew I changed it to C... and nearly got a boil over! So it can still be surprising. Definitely both methods can work to get to boil. I might try your...

    Understanding the Auber EZboil DSPR-320

One quirk of the DSPR 320: If you change the units from F to C, all of the set points stay at the numerical number they were at before. This means, for example, that the boiling point will stay at 212... but will now be C instead of F, and the boil-acceleration will never turn off! So if you...

For Sale Corny kegs for pickup in Alameda, CA ($30 each or 4 for $100)

I happen to be president of Bay Area Mashers. We're a home-brew club founded in 1990, we cover the whole east-bay, but meet in Alameda at Faction Brewing. If these kegs are still available, I'll happily send a message along to the club.

    How late is too late?

Thanks for reminding me to update! Some of the rhizomes ended up sprouting, but not all. The new cascade, and my 3rd year cascade came up. The chinook sprouted very very late. In fact, I had already dug up the rhizome to replace it, when I spotted a few sprouts that were 1/2 inch from breaking...

    Chilling wrap/jacket? Does this exist?

I've used one of their cooling jackets on kegs, and they worked great. I think the biggest problem with using it on my CF5 is that there are ports above the cone.

    Newest Spike Product Launch!

@SpikeBrewing In the picture above that has the CFC chiller mounted, how are you mounting it on the side like that? I just bought one of your CFCs, and it only has mounting holes on the "flat" side (across the diameter of the coil), not on the edge of the coils like in your picture above. While...

Kegland Rapt Pill floating hydrometer temperature monitor

By the way, "Electrolyte IPA" sounds like a good beer name.

Kegland Rapt Pill floating hydrometer temperature monitor

Unfortunately, anything around nowadays that has high capacity (which you want so you don't need to recharge halfway through fermentation) will also have the limited temperature ranges. My advice would be to keep the pill on the cold side, and you'll be fine. Go easydens for your mash temp...

Kegland Rapt Pill floating hydrometer temperature monitor

This is my favorite thread ever... throwing on my "Electrical Engineer who works for Lithium Ion Batteries for a living, and just taught a course on battery safety" hat now: I assume that the 18650 battery in the Pill is Lithium Ion. I don't know what precise chemistry you're using. That said...
