    adding coffee beans in secondary fermentation

    i've been making a coffee porter for a couple years now and i just coarsely crush 4 oz. of 8 o'clock brand arabica beans and dump them into the secondary for a couple weeks the aroma and flavor are very pronounced.i don't worry about steeping them and this works bvery well for me.

    The Oil Change

    I'm a mechanic so naturally i do all my own oil changes, but my daughter who lives in another town took her pickup to a jiffy lube and got her oil changed and a couple wipers and the bastards charged her about 70 bucks, i have yet to see the invoice to see where in the hell they came up with...

    I used to scrape off the labels with hot water and a single edge razor blade but anymore i don't even worry about them, just leave them on.

    Got the starter going right now for a scottish ale, if the weather holds and i feel like it probably one more, don't know what yet.

    How do I achieve malt flavor like a micro brewery?

    I have always put the water in the mash tun first and then added the grain, should i put the grain in first to decrease oxidation. I would think i would have more dough balls that way.

    i would think i would want a top that wouldn't harbor bacteria. hit the salvage yard and try to get as much stainless steel as you can, you can use it everywhere.

    hop stopper idea

    when i use whole hops i use a copper scrubbie on the end of my pickup tube its in there for the entire boil.i just wire tie it to the tube.

    alemonkey, we get down to lincoln once in awhile as both kids live there, are you part of the lincoln lagers? I've met a few of them while they were brewing at the state fair.
