    Low FG

Hi, My both batches ended up extremely low FG atleast what my rapt pills shows remotely. 1.000 and 1.003. Not yet tested with hydrometer. I think i know what caused this. While mashing I did 35min at 63°C and 25min at 70°C. (according to my kettle) While In alpha pause at second batch I...

    Fast fermentation In start (lager)

How would u guys suggest I do the diacetyl rest? Is it too slow if i pump the temperature +2°C a day until im In +18°C?

    Fast fermentation In start (lager)

That could be interesting. I have two heaters In each compartment 45W+17W and they are all controlled via the same thermostat. I suppose I could unplug the 17W thermostat on the other compartment and make the pill In the other compartment "Master". By this I mean that the rapt pill which is In...

    Fast fermentation In start (lager)

Here are both buckets timeline. Blue is temperature, Red is SG and yellow is ABV%. Nice to see that they both go quite hand In hand even though are In two different compartments of the fridge. Both have same wattage of heat sources also. SG has differed 0.001-0.002. So far they seem to act kind...

    Fast fermentation In start (lager)

I have a rapt pill inside the bucket. The thermostat uses the pills temperature so its temp inside it. I have set cooling and heating hysteresis to 1°C so it hovers between 11-13°C.

    Fast fermentation In start (lager)

Hi, I have two buckets with identical recipe and the only exception is yeast. On one I have safale s23 and the other is safale w34/70. The Set temperature In my fridge is 12°C and after 24h they have allready dropped from 1.046 to 1.038!?!? Is this normal? Should I drop the temperature a bit...

First brew, Lager, irish moss and clarity?

Im starting to think its the refractometer what is off. Have to check and possibly calibrate it. According the rapt pills it seems OG is 1.046 quite the same In both buckets. So the target FG should be 1.008 for 5% ABV. So diacetyl rest starting at 1.015 (80% attenuation) and I read that 2-3°C...

First brew, Lager, irish moss and clarity?

Maybe some day I will. It would be easier for me to get a touch of a good tasting commercial Ale for a point of reference.

First brew, Lager, irish moss and clarity?

Thanks for all the replies! If im not happy on behalf of clarity I propably use gelatin. I allready purchased irish moss so i think i will give it a try next time and put whirlfloc on wishlist when ordering next ingredients. I did two batches of wort with the same recipe. I made a rookie mistake...

First brew, Lager, irish moss and clarity?

Ok thanks for CLARIFYING this :D. The thing is I dont like or haven't yet tasted a good Ale. Their usually too hoppy for my taste. Not afraid to dive In to the deep end. If it comes out as a disaster then no harm done. Its only wasted time :D.

First brew, Lager, irish moss and clarity?

Hi, Today is my first brewday ever and im doing lager from Viking pilsner malt. I was hoping that the post could send my irish moss in time for this day but it didnt. Am I makeing a mistake by doing the brew without it? Im hoping that a 7-11wks of lagering (not yet fully decided the length of...

    MFL Bulkhead fitting

Wow! Thats quite nice. I always like it when someone makes it a bit nerdy :D. Dont get me wrong, thats not an insult. We used to program our old DIY boat with rasberry Pi. We had it hooked up to a computer so we could steer and throttle it remotely over the internet. Steering was via...

    MFL Bulkhead fitting

It really isn't that much work and its allready almost done :D. I'm much more comfortable working with metal than wood. I needed some "head space" on the freezer for what you just described so the collar needed to be 280mm high (thats around 11"). This gives me 180mm (about 7") "head space" for...

    MFL Bulkhead fitting

BTW! I'm interested to hear what do you have connected to that D25 connector what shows In the pictures?

    MFL Bulkhead fitting

Thanks day tripper! Yes there is Wurth Shop In Finland. Thanks for the tip! I ran into another problem made me throw all plans to trash bin.. I just realized my recently bought second hand 100l freezer is too low. I cant close the lid while corny inside it... So I ran into a hardware store and...

    MFL Bulkhead fitting

Im looking for a MFL bulkhead fitting for my keezer. The idea is to drill hole through the chest freezer lid and install a MFL bulkhead fitting. On both sides I would put duotight connectors for keg/beer carbonation. My Co2 tank is too large to store In the freezer. The problem is cant find any...

    Newbie here

As a matter of fact I have thought of doing a peat smoked batch some time In the future! I think it will need its own fermenter but other than that I dont know whats the problem. But this brew will not be for beer :D

    Cell count estimation

I agree that calculators do a Great job when doing a 2 or 3 step starters. But what about when you try to propagate from very small vials. Lets say I want to propagate from 0.1g sample of my yeast bank. I need to propagate it multiple times and if each every step has an error of like 30% it...

    Cell count estimation

But isnt it the same with the nowadays method? You pitch a bag of yeast which cell count you assume has approximately this amount of cells.
