    Burst vinyl chiller line

Thanks, all. I now think by restricting (blocking) the outflow, the water in the IC boiled and the steam pressure plus whatever intake pressure plus the softness from the heat is all what did it. Since I wanted to brew today, I just repaired the end. Then for chilling I removed the outflow...

    Burst vinyl chiller line

My chiller copper has plain ends with no welded hose connectors, so I slip vinyl on and secure with hose clamps. I then run a few feet of vinyl down to ground level where there are barbed female garden hose connectors. I can shorten the vinyl length and bring the garden hose close, but that...

    Burst vinyl chiller line

This is the first time connecting my immersion chiller to an outside garden hose. Also the first time I put a ball valve on the outside of the chiller, thinking I could adjust the flow from there to balance chilling time and total water usage. I'm glad I did a dry (er, wet) run with just...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Those who use a whirlpool device with the AF, how far from the top or bottom do you position the outlet? Related, how deep is the 6.5 kettle from lip to bottom? That dimension isn't exactly derivable from the dimensions on the Anvil site.

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Thanks for the confirmation that this can be done! I'd rather do this in a 6.5 than deal with IC depth (mine will reach down 15") for small batches in a 10.5.

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Thanks for the info. I'll have to go check if my existing IC has any more reach than the factory one. I like ICs and am not itching to switch to a CFC just for this. I plan to focus on small batches to gain experience, and until I have access to 220V in a year or so, after which I'd consider...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

I'm having a hard time finding recent information about the minimum batch size for the 10.5. With new models, between the 6.5 and 10.5, I see ~$80 in cost and 9 inches in height, but will I be happy brewing 2.5-3G batches in the 10.5? I'd go with the 6.5, but for concerns with grain capacity...

Seriously the easiest DIY ever for bottling bucket dip tube

My bucket/spigot came with just an exterior conical gasket. I'll pick up a thin silicone gasket for the interior sometime.

Seriously the easiest DIY ever for bottling bucket dip tube

This idea is still bearing fruit. I bottled with a PVC 3/4" to flush elbow last night and it worked just as hoped. Measured the offset to get a 1/16" gap at the bottom, cut with a hacksaw, de-burred and sanded a bit. Used a knife to trim the face of the threaded side more flush for a seal...

Fast solution for using IC pre-chiller for 5 gallons lager?

Thanks, that shorter is better is clear. But using my FC for the sub-tap chill to pitch temperature can mean a large difference in effort or equipment expense. Looking in HtB (Palmer), the danger zone is 90-140F and he says he cools to 85F before chilling overnight and pitching in the morning...

Fast solution for using IC pre-chiller for 5 gallons lager?

Newbie with no lager experience, but is this really a big deal? Nobody just chills to tap water temp, then places in the chamber to reach pitch temperature (say, overnight)?
