    Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370

My guess is that it lost cabin pressure, drifted for a while with everyone asleep, and finally went into the water 500 miles south of India. If it crashed nose down, the debris field could be isolated to a small area, and mostly underwater.

    Cleaning Bottles for Homebrew

I tend to use the commercial bottles where they've opted for paint rather than labels. A brief soak in iodophor, a rinse, and that's it really. Since I rinse all bottles thoroughly after each use, there's no real need for heavy cleaning. I haven't had any issues using this method so far. I've...

    sick

I think mr bell is on to something there. It's not anything bacterial in the the beer, but rather young beer is more volatile in your tummy due to the still active yeast activity. I have heard of this from other people, and experienced it as well - It's a bit like having the flu. Better to wait...

Fermenting finished or not? Unsure about the signs

My doctor wants to see my junk regardless of what's wrong. You could walk in with a cold, and it wouldn't matter. So yeah, I could totally see him wanting to cut into my chest.

Air Lock vs. Blow Off Tube

I had an explosion earlier tonight, while using a blow-off. It wasn't disastrous because I keep my carboy in a large rubber-maid container. There was some cascade on the ceiling though. :( I had a fantastic cold break, and was at around 80F within 5 mins, so I know pitching temp was not an...

    Righteous American Real Ale

Most of my batch is still aging at room temp, so that's probably good advice. The info about willamette and cascade being used together is food for thought as well.... thanks for the replies. J

    Righteous American Real Ale

Has anyone else here made Righteous American Real Ale? (It is from p.170 of Joy of Home Brewing) Papazian claims that this beer finishes pretty quickly, and when I cracked one last night after only 4 days in the bottle, it was awesome. (as he said it would be) I noticed though, that the...

    Apfelwein not fermenting.

Tim, I wouldn't worry about it. Mine didn't take off until after 24hrs, and when it started..... it got pretty violent. Right now the yeast are multiplying, and pretty soon there will be a war in your carboy.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Going to brew an American Ale from Papazian 's book tomorrow - and this time I'll be using plenty of Campden tablets. (The last few batches have had the burnt plastic funk in them and were way cidery.)
