How long does it take to lose significant carbonation after venting headspace?

In this case there's a good 8 gallons of headspace (bottling strait from a unitank) and the equilibrium pressure I carbonate at will be 10 PSI (32 degrees F), and we would vent it down to a regulated 6 PSI to use a Blichmann beer gun. I'm a bit concerned how fast I need to get the bottling...

Theoretical differences between a starter and a normal fermentation. Why not make the yeast starter just like a baby beer?

Other than the amount of yeast and wort and that you pitch the starter at high krausen instead of letting it rip what differences are there between starters and normal fermentation? I'm curious if there would be any issues with making a little baby fermenter, like say out of a 6" long 4" TC...

Lots of grain mush in the wort and scorching

I was making a german pils in my mash and boil 2 with 40 minutes alpha rest and 40 minutes beta rest, and we had a few issues which made the mash take forever, our power kept going on and off and the mash and boil is pretty slow at changing temperatures. We also keep having the mash and boil...

Brewers edge Mash and boil 2 thermometer gasket seems loose

The gasket on the mash and boil 2 thermometer seems loose, not sure how that works or how to disassemble it. nothing leaking out but I think there may be a slow leak into the machine because the switches fog up when its hot.

Best way to connect blichmann beer gun to a 1.5" TC unitank racking port.

The beer gun uses a 3/16" beer line with a 1/4" swivel attached to the end. I guess one approach would be to add a TC to NPT adapter and then attach a NPT to flare adapter to that. Can't find a proper 3/16" barb for 1.5" TC.

Does an oil filled pressure gauge read correctly at 33 degrees Fahrenheit?

On Sunday I set the temperature on my freezer based fermentation chamber to 33 F from 80 F. After one night the pressure gauge on my conical was reading 8.5 PSI, now after two nights it's reading 5.5 PSI. I'm worried it's leaking but also, do pressure gauges even work at 33 F? It's actually a...

    Spike PRV was stuck

As I mentioned in https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/de-carbonating-for-bottle-conditioning.730721 I'm running a batch of fruit wine under pressure at high temperature (80F) right now to test my equipment. Weird thing is, it started getting over 15 PSI after a couple days, and I realized that...

Anyone ever thought of trying to use CO2 from the same batch to bottle that batch?

If the CO2 is captured in a keg at 12PSI I'm guessing that will not be enough pressure to bottle 5-10 gallons of beer sitting in the fermenter after lagering at 8 PSI (example for the sake of illustration). I wonder if there is any kind of an air compressor that could be hooked to a little keg...

Low pressure CO2 tank filled from spunding.

Lets say we had some kind of setup where we fill a series of corny kegs with CO2 coming off a unitank to 15 PSI. Could we hook this series of CO2 filled kegs at 15 PSI to a regulator and connect that to a beer gun or a tap and push beer out of the unitank that way? If so, how many kegs would...

About how fast does spunding go?

I've seen my equipment (Spike CF10 with PRV) get 12 PSI when it was working properly one time overnight, but that was on the first day of fermentation (I'm in the middle of some troubleshooting with technical support but that's a topic for elsewhere). So this time, on the third afternoon (fourth...

Sanity check on pole based hop yard design with boxes

My plan is to bury 5 inch by 20 foot poles so that they protrude 15 feet, possibly with cement, and string a 26 foot or so line between them out to the north of my little orchard (my house is on 2.5 acres in Western Washington) so it doesn't shade them. The hops will be planted 3 feet apart on...

    De-carbonating for bottle conditioning

I haven't seen very much discussion of this. In a cold crashing system (unitank) where suckback is prevented by adding pressure will it work to reduce the pressure to almost 0 PSI during cold crash (after achieving the minimum temperature of course) so that you can do a standard bottle...

Lost all pressure while pressure fermenting Caribou Slobber

I just did my first brewday on Saturday. I made a partial extract caribou slobber kit because someone gave me an old one, the yeast was new though I got a new pack of Windsor at the LHBS. I brewed in my mash and boil 2, mixed all the crap in, boiled for 60 minutes adding hops and all that, then...
