Fig Stout ... thoughts as to the fig addition .

I was just thinking as I opened this particular beer that it is aging quite well...If you look back a few posts you will see me panicking due to the lack of head . That is no longer an issue. The flavor is just what I was looking for ...hard to describe but eat a fig and imagine it without the...

    Flower wine recipe needed

I made Mead with the Maypops instead of wine ... I did use the skins , but it was straight into the fermentor with the Honey ... no boiling . To be honest I was disappointed in the flavor ... kinda like grapefruit ... which surprised the hell out of me . Let most of this years Maypops rot on the...

Who else uses 34/70 on the regular?

Pitched the 34/70 dry last night and had two inches of Krauzen in the carboy this morning ... this is typical for me although I room temp ferment with swamp cooler .

    What are you drinking now?

Drank some of my fig stout which is awesome...but no head retention at all...contrasted with this "Alt Zeppelin " which is one of my top fave beers I brew. I'm brewing a Marzen in the background.

Who else uses 34/70 on the regular?

Brewing a Marzen now ... 34/70 . Only bad experience I've had with this yeast was one batch that got funky cuz I reused the yeast after months in the fridge . My fault not the yeast.

How much fermentation occurs once transferred to secondary?

I like my carboys ... i can tell when the beer is done by looking at it ... I gave my kegs away years ago and went back to bottles . The only downsides I hear are they are dangerous if broken . Okay , I can accept those terms.

Fig Stout ... thoughts as to the fig addition .

Yesterday was two weeks in the bottle ... first impressions are that it has little to no head ... I don't know if it's just slow carbonation due to the secondary or if I screwed up somehow , or something to do with the fruit . Other than that the flavor is spot on (delicious)... it's got the fig...

Fig Stout ... thoughts as to the fig addition .

I had a few floaters , but I believe most were filtered out during bottling ... i stopped transferring a little sooner than I would have otherwise ... got 48 12 oz. bottles out of a six gallon batch ... about right I think as I left a bit in the original transfer to secondary . going to pop one...

Fig Stout ... thoughts as to the fig addition .

Wasn't going to secondary this but I need to go offshore in the morning and I'm not comfortable with the floating fruit in the carboy for at least another week . I'm going to rack it into a 5 gallon carboy today , I'm sure the flavors the figs would impart to the brew are there and this is the...
