What I did for beer today

Well, while testing one of my Oktoberfest (bottled in Feb2023), I bottled 2 cases of a Summer Saison that needed a lot of patience'n'prayer to turn out good. The cook was done in 110° desert shade & it really didn't go as planned. The taste during (indoor) bottling this weekend demonstrated...

moving to 5 a gallon carboy

Nawwww. These chemicals were, shall we say, not consumable by living, breathing entities. 🤢

moving to 5 a gallon carboy

I first used the 'standard' food-grade buckets. I did that long enough, that I figured I "saved up" by doing so and replaced the buckets with Speidels over 4-5 years. But now I know I won't out live them.

moving to 5 a gallon carboy

I use Speidel fermenters. Nice multipurpose that store easy 'cuz they're not glass. Doing 5gal cooks, I use a 30liter for primary & a 20liter for secondary. Never had a problem.. so far. Shop for best prices. With plastics, always but new. (I once bought a glass carboy cheap, found out that...

As long as they're not the ones turning you in to the Central Committee, who cares? (Take no pictures tho.) Of course, once they're > 18 and want your stuff, they could retroactively turn you in.

    Dumpers

Maybe it's the desert? Although I've been at it for 12 yrs, in 5 states... Ive never had to dump a batch. As matter of fact, reading the two forums I joined once coming to AZ (Casa Grande/Coolidge) 3yrs ago I feel truly blessed. If I counted all the serious issues I've had brewing on one...

New post a picture of your pint

BTW, my most recent session-pilsner has had an issue with head production. Just enough carbonation too make it drinkable.

New post a picture of your pint

Oh, head is good. Yet, one thing I appreciated doesn't all my trips to England was they are required to give you a pint (20 ozs, w/small allowance for head) if that's what you paid for. I was just teasing with my post. :bigmug:. (note the head ;) )

The brews all look great'n'tastee. Yet the barkeep are all drastically shorting yer pints. Look at all that empty glass and head! :mug:

    Brewer's Best Kits?

Brewer's Best kits were all I used for the first 4 years or so. Never an issue. My local shop in Ft Wayne, IN kept a small stock & monitored dates very well, but could order kids not on the shelf when needed. I used recipes after that mainly 'cuz we moved to El Paso, TX and BB kits just went...

    raking cane

When the plastic softens does that allow some of the substance of the cane to leech into the liquid?

Beans, chilly, & weenies for breakfast are not a good idea the day of yer cook either! :ghostly:

Is it possible to let your beer sit TOO long?

I love home brewing. Ask any question and the answers will very greatly. Everyone has a story to back up their response and some can even can hostile with folks who disagree. :agressive: Yet after reviewing all the answers to almost any question the most common, most thought-out, fact filled...

What I did for beer today

Ah.... after reading various folks' mumblings about bottling & considering the expense of kegging, I bottled 2 cases of a summer bitter. Way too simple a batch, but at least there'll be be in the fridge while I research the next batch. Slow & methodical, with only the unspoken verbal noise in...
