    Fermentation odors

I don't mind it, but my wife says the smell of fermenting wine is "farty." She told me I'm getting an air purifier for Christmas, to pick it out, and it better work. Does anyone know if something like this will alleviate that smell...

Applying generic recipe to specific batch size?

Mitch Steele's (otherwise) excellent book IPA concludes with recipes for historic, early craft, and modern IPAs. The grains and hops are presented in % per gallon. How do I translate that into lbs and ozs for a 5-gal batch size? For example, Harpoon IPA: Pale malt 94% Victory malt 4% 60L...

Bottle conditioning - why no more alcohol?

Yeast eats sugar, and excretes CO2 and alcohol (simplified). We read FG at the end of fermentation and calculate ABV. Then we add priming sugar and bottle. A few weeks later the beer is fizzy. So the priming sugar reactivates the yeasties and they make more CO2, which is trapped in solution...

    Free beer bottles, Cary NC

I've gone to kegging, and I have 100+ clean, de-labeled beer bottles. I need the shelf space for wine bottles, and I'd rather a homebrewer use them than toss them in the recycle bin. 12 oz., mostly brown glass.

    Partial mash?

How do all these LODO techniques translate to partial mash brewing? My current hot side procedure is (for a 5gal batch): Mash 3lb grain in 1gal H2O for 1 hour. The grain mix is all specialty grains in the recipe + enough base grain to make up 3lb; convert remaining base grain to DME Strike at...

    My kind of brewery...

Not really on topic, since it's not homebrew. But it's about people who brew beer, and I found it funny: https://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/virginia-brewery-beer-inspired-vulgar-complaint-disgruntled-maskless-customer

    Removing barb fitting from regulator?

I have a TOF regulator with a 5/16 barb gas output. It looks like it's just screwed into a ball valve, like this: I want to replace the barb with a 1/4 NPT DuoTight fitting for use with EVABarrier tubing. That seems simple enough, but when I put two wrenches on the respective parts, it feels...

    Hi.

Hi. 3dB Brewing stands for my (kids') three dogs. It's capitalized that way 'cause I'm also an electronics geek. This adventure started last Christmas when my daughter got me a Mr. Beer kit and Chris Colby's Recipe Bible. The ale was predictably meh, but it set the hook. I found a local supply...
