Question about a ginger sour recipe

I'm getting ready to make a ginger sour from a whole grain recipe I found here. When I was reviewing the recipe in Brewfather today, I realized that the XML file from that site stopped at the end of the mash with no instructions on when to add the lactobacillus (WLP677) and yeast (Kolsch, White...

    Virus Issue? Nutrition? Any ideas

The affected leaves didn't improve, but the decay didn't spread. Not sure if the fertilizer helped or if it would have just stabilized on its own.

Low Mash Water in a Grandfather G30

I asked the same question on the Grainfather subreddit, and someone suggested using Grainfather's formula for calculating mash water volume. Grainfather's formula (grain weight in lb * 0.34) + 0.9 US gal) says to use 4.6 gallons of mash water. Odd that Brewfather's calculation is so different...

Low Mash Water in a Grandfather G30

I'm making a wheat in a Grandfather G30 and the recipe calls for a mash water volume of 2.6 gallons (with ~4 gallons of sparge water). I'm worried that that there won't be enough water to mash in the 11 pounds of fermentables—4 pounds of 2-row, 4 pounds of white wheat, and a pound each of flaked...

    Virus Issue? Nutrition? Any ideas

Thanks—that's a really useful resource. The hops are just growing in topsoil. We've gotten a lot of rain recently so maybe that's part of it. Someone on another forum also suggested nutrient issues, so earlier today I side-dressed the plants with hops fertilizer that includes nitrogen...

    Virus Issue? Nutrition? Any ideas

In the second year of growing hops (so, I was hoping to get some cones this year), but the leaves on my hops developed the brown discoloration shown in the picture. I don't see any evidence of aphids, eggs, or other insects. If it's a nutrition issue, any ideas on what I'd treat them with?

What I did for beer today

FWIW, I think the previous owner used a lot of building materials he bartered for, so he probably was able to get carpet but not linoleum. He was a logger who built the house from trees on the property, which were milled at the sawmill across the road). Seems like he could have done tongue and...

What I did for beer today

Christened the new space by brewing a porter. This so much easier than brewing in the kitchen (really, who installs carpet in a kitchen?).

    Stainless steel sink/table: Web-Based Vendors?

Thanks--these options are all worth considering.

    Stainless steel sink/table: Web-Based Vendors?

[ETA: On second thought, I'm using a Grainfather with the neoprene jacket on it, so I wouldn't have the issues you mentioned. I clean in place and just need to dump the liquid into the sink. The sink is only going to see tubing, measuring cups, a wooden stirring paddle, etc.] Good point about...

    Stainless steel sink/table: Web-Based Vendors?

I'm finishing off part of my basement to make a dedicated brewing space. Because of my remote location, I can't locate an affordable stainless steel utility sink/table. Can anyone recommend a web-based vendor they've had good experiences with? I'm thinking something along the lines of this...

What I did for beer today

Got confused by a massive drop in gravity for the Bitter American clone (9.5% ABV when I was shooting for about 4.3%), then I realized when I dry hopped it, the mesh bag must have landed on the Tilt in the fermenter. Luckily, I'd tied off the hops bag with a string and knotted it to a handle...

How to clean a hop strainer?

I also clean it with a hose sprayer to remove the silt and soak it in PBW. Then I use a stiff bristled brush on the outside, scrubbing the basket and pushing the bristles through on stubborn spots. Not 100% perfect but about 98% I guess I could bring out the pressure washer but I'm sure I'd...

    Don't Do That.

After you transfer beer from the fermenter to the keg, don't forget to grab the Tilt out of the fermenter before you dump trub down the toilet. I briefly thought I was going to be able to figure out the SG of my septic system, but Bluetooth isn't going to penetrate the concrete septic tank and...

Mango Puree in SS Brewtech Brew Bucket or in Secondary?

Thanks for the tips. I think I'll rotate the dip tup all the way up and then slowly rotate it down at the end of the transfer until I start pulling in mango fibers. Looking forward to this batch.

Mango Puree in SS Brewtech Brew Bucket or in Secondary?

Thanks. I'm going to cold crash so it sounds like I'll be good just pouring the fruit puree into the primary in a week or so. I'm using a Tilt hydrometer, so I'll keep an eye on the SG curve and add the mango once fermentation slows down.

Mango Puree in SS Brewtech Brew Bucket or in Secondary?

This morning I moved a just-brewed Mango American Wheat Ale into my Brewbucket and pitched yeast in. The recipe I'm following said to rack the beer onto mango puree in the secondary but I think that's just going to re-start fermentation, right? Would I be better off waiting until the initial...

How Do I Use These Pins for Anchoring Trellis Twine?

Just Cascade and Chinook for now. I’m hoping for enough for one brewing session this first year. We’ll see how it goes.

How Do I Use These Pins for Anchoring Trellis Twine?

In case anyone stumbles over this thread looking for an answer to the same question, here's a clip in action. Hops need to grow another couple of inches before I'll be able to get them to start wrapping around the twine.
