    Shippo

@shetc told us about using Shippo for shipping beers for 12 Beers of Christmas (thanks!). My wife handled the shipping for me and found that the cost of my 10 items was $88.28 on Shippo vs. $180.69 UPS. Shipping for my granddaughter's birthday present was $8.50 vs. $11.50. Not shilling for...

    Kinda Mexican Cake-ish

Yesterday brewed the base for hopefully something similar to Mexican Cake. I took the ingredients from an NB chocolate milk stout, cut it back to 3 gallon with an additional 1# of Briess wheat dme, adjusted IBUs to 50. OG 1.104. 65°F I guess I used the S-04 that was supposed to go in this on...

What to do with (probably) the last Anchor Steam I'll ever have?

My grandson looked all around Atlanta and found one sixer of Anchor Steam which he gave to me (great to have family that loves you!). Can't decide whether to drink it while it's as fresh as it is (bottled 02/14/23) or save it and drink it passed it's prime but enjoy the nostalgia. Any thoughts?

    Priming cider with apple juice

Maybe I'm over thinking this but do I need to take into account the extra volume of liquid I'll add to the cider when using juice to prime? I have 3 gallons of cider and juice that has 28 grams of sugar per 8 oz. My plan was to add 24 oz (3x8) of juice to the bottling bucket until this thought...

    Why the foam?

Last few of these have foamed over immediately upon removing the cap. Doesn't seem to be overcarbed, normal sound when opening, no spewing. No off taste. Is there a potential problem?

    Sour not souring

I'm attempting my first kettle sour, so I wanted to keep it simple. I mixed 5 lbs wheat DME with 3 gallons of store bought spring water in my BK with the intent to top up to 5 in the fermenter. Pitched 1 Goodbelly Super (50B count, best by date 05/01/22), holding between 95 and105*F. Checked on...

    "Wit Love" Abbaye Cider

I made a cider that was a riff on a wit beer for my son's wedding. Day 1 5 gallons apple juice from Aldi (Nature's Nectar brand) 1 pack Lallemand Belgian Abbaye dry yeast (not rehydrated) Day 2 Add 1 lb table sugar boiled 20 minutes with 1 cup water and 2 t lemon juice. Stir fermenter...

    Backsweetening

I have never back sweetened mead and would like to do so without causing oxygenation or other negative effects. After stabilizing, how is the best way to add honey to sweeten. Stir, shake, swirl. They all seem to add O2. Not an issue? I can't seem to find the answer on the method, just "add...

Store cider to bottle carb later

I have a cider about ready to bottle. I'm short on bottles and need the fermenter so I'm wondering about filling some 2 liter pop bottles, storing, then priming and bottling later. Anyone have thoughts on if this will work, affect cider, etc. I appreciate your help!
