Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Just brewed my first 5 gal batch ever this weekend. Been doing 1 gal before that. Getting everything dialed in so I was a little off. I did BIAB method and must have figured my water wrong or lost count. Anyway ended up with 7 gallons. OG was 1.032. Also I started my mash at the right temp...

Yeast ready set go, stop, go

I figured I hadn’t hurt anything but was surprised how it took off again. I assumed fermentation was complete but obviously it wasn’t. Curious if it would help out FG because of this.

Yeast ready set go, stop, go

So I’ve been brewing all grain for a while but I’m still a newb. I recently moved my beer from one room to another (kid was trying to mess with it). The yeast is an ale yeast (came in a kit note sure what kind). The first room was 68 +/- degrees. It fermented for about a week (done after 3 days...

    Centennial vs Chinook

Not much. I’m just ordering enough for 3 different batches and trying to make the most of the order. Since it’ll be a while until I order again. Not the end of the world either way. I have brewed enough to know how different hops can change the profile of the same beer. Although I’m planning...

    Centennial vs Chinook

I’m brewing 2 recipes one needs 1/2oz of chinook the other needs 1/2oz of centennial. Theses are both light ales (5 gal batches). Trying to figure out how much of a difference it would make in the beers overall flavor? For reference the centennial is from the top 25 from this forum. The...

    protafloc vs gelatin

I’ve been doing all grain for a while and I bottle condition (don’t have kegs unfortunately). I never really cared about the clarity of my beer but thought it might be nice to start trying to clean them up some. So protafloc (or IM) and gelatin are two things that pop up a lot for clarifying...

First BIAB... with a few questions.

If I added sugar to the fermentor would that increase the OG? Or would it be FG? Or would it be a waste of time? Probably just gonna roll with the punches but that if it were a possible fix it would be nice to know if I ever needed it.

First BIAB... with a few questions.

I did my first official BIAB this weekend and had similar issues with my set up. OG came in at 1.042 I was aiming for 1.05 and had a decent amount left in the pot. Afterward (while it was on ice) it dawned on my that had I reduced it the OG should have gone up. Overall pretty happy with the...

    How to Grow Hops

I keep reading a lot about putting the rhisome in the ground or large pot for raised bed type growth. I can't decide which would be better and if I did a pot how big should I go (how small is too small)?

    Hellos from NWA

Thanks for the welcomes and help! I have been brewing all grain kits from the beginning and love it but have just started paying attention to why some taste better than others and how a few degrees temp or lack of calcium can make a big difference. If they'd had taught this in chemistry I might...

    Hellos from NWA

Hi all, Well my wife got me started on this obsession two years ago with 1 gallon kits. Probably brewed 20 or so by now. However I’ve just got the itch to try and make my beer “better”. Finished reading John Palmer’s How to Brew and joined here. Next we I bought and hydrometer and...
