    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

A "modified" BIAB method someone on my groups.io brewing group (it's called Zymurgy) sounds useful. He makes up two or more brewing bags and steeps them like "tea bags" in the water/wort, and it's easier to remove the smaller bags than one large bag. He does 12 gallon batches. I'll quote part of...

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

It's probably because of the weight of the wet grain you'd be handling at those volumes. With a hoist it might not matter. Cleanup might be a bit messy with that much grain also, but I'm sure one of those who use BIAB can chime in with their opinions or experiences. Donald

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

I might give it a try myself sometime. Right now I've gone back to extract with specialty grain brewing due to time considerations.

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

Blazinlow86: No one should be challenging you on your brewing method. I haven't tried BIAB but I might sometime just to see what it's like. It seems to me it's like no sparge except for removing the grains from the wort than the wort from the grains. One other idea that seems to have originated...

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

RM-MN: I tend to agree with using a carboy over a plastic secondary fermenter. However, while there's the reduction of surface area exposed to the air in a carboy, some equipment kits include a second bucket for a secondary fermenter instead of glass, likely to keep the price down. That said...

New Brewer -- What if I don't actually Lager my Lager?

If you have any room outside like in a garage or on a covered porch, this might be an alternative to a chest freezer setup. I've used it before I got a chest freezer and now that my freezer is being used for food, I might use this technique again. Get a box, cardboard will work if it's in a...

    DIY Cost-Effective Immersion Wort Chiller

Good work. It looks a lot like mine! I like the idea of the clip-on thermometer. I think I'll use mine next time instead of using an instant read one every couple of minutes so I can make it simpler.

Chlorine for sanitation: any input on this?

You may want to use a lower concentration of bleach. I think the recommended amount is 1 oz per 5 gallons, so if you have a 6.5 gal primary fermenter, add a little more to compensate. I used bleach for several years before switching to iodophor. Bleach didn't cause me any problems, but some...

    Carboy/ Keg Cleaner Giveaway

I could use one of these. Looks like it would do a better job than I can with a regular brush alone.

    Stop using Irish Moss!!!

Never heard of them, either. Must not be famous enough to justify buying a television. I'm gonna stick with my old Philips AM upright console tube radio. It even has shortwave bands, and there's a kit you can buy (or used to be able to) in order to convert it to watch TV on a round tube. I...

    Differences in bottle strength?

The old and probably no longer available returnable bottles that came in a case of 24 were much thicker than today's cheap, thin bottles used by most major breweries. That said, I have had no problems using the thinnest bottles, even screw tops, using a bench style capper that's easy on the...

    HomeBrewTalk Glass Contest

I should be at 25 now, or more maybe. And by the deadline I should have 25 "good" ones for sure.

    Natural gas burners pt 2

Before you buy these, make sure they are not for commercial high-pressure gas lines. Commercial high-pressure gas lines are running at a lot higher pressure than home pressure. I don't know what the cost of adding a second meter and regulator would cost, but other then a recurring monthly...
