    CO2 Serving pressure

I've had a keg of NEIPA under 8 psi for the last three weeks. I assume it is carbonated and ready to drink. What serving pressure do you recommend? The tap line tubing is 3/16" i.d. and I believe its between 11 and 12' long. I has a chart with tap setup recommendations, but I can't seem...

    SS brew bucket mini

I bought two of these buckets some time ago and I have yet to use them. The original thought was to use them for experimenting with different dry hop additions and other flavor contributions, such as, cocoa nibs, orange peel......My hangup is using them as a secondary and introducing oxygen...

Wort/Beer line cleaners?? What would you recommend?

I have only washed my HERMS setup with soap and water and then followed with recirculating boiling water to continue the cleaning process. I do have brewery wash that I have yet to use. For the keezer- it is new, but I know that I will be cleaning it in the near future after my kegs finish...

Looking for milk stout recipes- please

I recently brewed up a milk stout with some older grains and US-05. I tried a small sample from some leftovers that was remaining in the lines on the way to the carboy. Tasted rather roasted and I probably mute that at some point in future batches. Below is what I used. What do you use or...

    Best temp to keg carb?

Hi there! Fermentation of my NEIPA is complete and I am going to transfer to keg this afternoon. I'm wondering if I should co2 carb and maintain at basement temps of 59*F or connect co2 and place keg immediately into my keezer? Also BS3 has me maintaining at 65*F for another 1.5 weeks...

Chocolate peanut butter stout- process info request

Hello! I have all of the ingredients to get going on this next brew, but I'm not completely sure about the steps required after fermentation completes. Your feedback will determine which ferment vessel I use directly after the boil. I have 5 gallon carboys and (2) 2.5 gallon brew buckets...

Dry yeast after expiration date- still good?

Like the title suggests, I have several packets of US-05 in my refrigerator from a long pause in brewing. They are roughly 1-1.5 years after the expired date. Would you trash them or have you had good luck? My plan was to use them to make a stout. What do you think? Thanks in advance.

    When is spunding worth trying?

I'm interested in the idea of spunding to carbonate in a keg after first fermenting with a carboy, but when is using a spunding valve used most of the time? Currently trying to learn the reasons as to why and how to spund. Do you transfer to keg/spund with a couple points above FG or do you...

    software and PH calcs

I finally got a Hanna PH meter and I'm looking forward to getting my mash PH dialed in. My first go at it and I had similar PH reading to my old meter that I dropped and broke. My target PH using EZ-Water was 5.4 and I ended up around 4.8 twenty minutes into the mash. Phosphoric acid 85%...

HERMS temp control- I can't dial in

Yesterday was a brew day after a long layoff and I couldn't seem to get my temps dialed in at the MT or HLT. I'm not sure if I need to adjust any of the InkBird ITC-106 settings (setting recommendations?) or if its a matter of leaving lids on or off. My target temperatures were 152 for 60min...

    Min in 10 gal kettles??

5 gallon batches are just to large for me, bc I like to brew often and experiment. Would I be able to squeeze out a 2.5-3 gal size from a 10 MLT and BK? Brewing with a three vessel electric HERMS setup. Thank you.

NEIPA yeast that are less likely to produce diacytle?

Looking for some suggestions, but also re-examining my process to help reduce a recent mishaps. A NEIPA brew with Wyeast 1318, mosaic, Simcoe and Citra hops provided flavor and aroma, but contained a silky/oily mouth feel with some after taste. Also has some flaked oats in the mix and assumed...

    Yeast starter looks funny??

The yeast I am using in Denys Favorite 1450 by Wyeast. A 2L starter was produced to counter the age of the smack pack. I left the starter on the stir plate for 48 hours and then cold crashed and transferred to a ball jar. The particles settled in two distinct layers and I’m wondering why...

Conical to tall for my fridge......customizable??

So, I came across an extra refrigerator and I wanted to use it as a fermentation chamber. Turns out that my Spike conical is to tall for the refrigerator. It will work fine for carboys, but I really want to be able to do both. This unit is a fridge/freezer upright with the freezer up top...

Measured way to add O2 to wort???

Just wondering if there is a way to accurately measure/meters how much o2 is applied to wort for yeast health. I first started with and aerator and then upgraded to an o2 wand, but I never know how much to open up the o2 canister and then time it. Never consistent. Is there an o2 device...

Anyone using the Inkbird itc 608 and a fan?

I just bought this controller and hooked it up to a kenmore freezer turn keezer. Also installed a fan and I have it running when the ienmore is not. Just a matter of hooking it into the other inkbird slot. Looking for tips! Thx.

Thoughts on water sample and brewing a stout

The town water has been okay for brewing some styles of beer, but I'm not sure about using it for a sweet milk stout. I took a screen shot of a Bru' N Water spreadsheet that uses 100% distilled. You can see that my town water would be starting with higher sodium and choline levels from the...

    Conical first timer here........???

Super happy with my decision to finally break down and buy a conical fermenter. The first brew with the new fermenter happened on Tuesday. A double dry hopped NE IPA. It has now been just over 3 days in the tank with one dry hop addition. I was planning on doing a second drop hop addition...

Closed loop transfer....conical to keg build question

My grain to glass procedures have improved greatly over the last six months. Finally I broke down and upgraded from a carboy to a conical fermenter. Currently fermenting in the conical is a NE IPA. While fermentation is happening, I need to assemble a few transfer hoses for a closed loop...

Trying to make sense of these gravity readings....

Today I brewed a NEIPA using Beersmith 3 software. The estimated original gravity calculation by BS3 was 1.072 sg. Using a refractometer my pre boil sg was 1.046 and post boil at 1.076. I checked for calibration accuracy and I was able to confirm 1.000 using distilled. I also have a...
