    Campden Tablet Oops!

If you are using a refractometer for gravity samples after fermentation, the reading will be way off.

    what happened

I had this problem before with over carbonated beer. I would release the pressure once or twice in the keg over a day or two to see if the bitter bite goes away. I started noticing the same thing when my beer was great for 2 or 3 days and then got super bitter. Released the pressure for a day or...

    Grain Mills

Visit the corona mill thread. I bought a corona mill off ebay for 15$, bought a bucket from lowes 4$, threaded bolt for use in place of the handle <1$, use drill and an empty pretzel container with the bottom cut out to fit into the metal hopper. I mounted the mill into my bucket, put the lid...

    Killing/Neutralizing Yeast

If you kill your yeast before they carbonate your beer...it will be flat bottled sweet beer. Maybe you could try letting the bottles sit for a week after bottling, heating the beer bottles up to kill the yeast (preventing bottle bombs), and save some sweetness. Lactose is unfermentable and...

How much can alcohol can you handle?

I don't think most people would admit to what they actually drink because they could be labeled as an alcoholic. But..a few nights a week I do not drink and then they could possibly be followed up with a 4 drink night. If there is a party that starts at say...1 pm and goes until 3 or 4 am then...

Dry Astringency: Pale Ales and IPAs

Is the beer ever drinkable? I keg and I noticed that the longer the beer is on the gas the more bitter and astringent it gets. I found out that I was over carbonating the beer, which causes a carbonic acid bitterness/bite. If so, try lowering the pressure in the keg.

When Your LHBS Makes You Want A Mill

Corona is much cheaper, check Ebay over any sites. I got mine for 15 plus free shipping. I attached it to a bucket and attached a drill to it. I had a friend that had an empty pretzel container that I put in the corona hopper (upside down with the bottom cut out) and I can hold 10 lbs of grain...

    Don't Do That.

Been there. I know it's a lot of work...but if you remove the poppet in the keg and remove the pin in the liquid out coupler you can have a direct line of beer that never clogs. Downside is that if you for some reason remove the coupler...you will have a stream of beer erupting out of the keg...

    Keg that just won't carb!

try raising the pressure again to see if you can force the co2 into suspension. It also could have to do with your recipe and technique if you have no head on your beer. Worse case scenario is crank up your pressure to 20ish and roll the keg on the ground until you hear gas going into the beer...

Temp Controller: Anyone ever use this one?

I use this one. There is a 10 amp version and 15 amp. I use the 15 amp because when I used a 10 amp on with my freezer it lasted 2 hours before frying. I've used this controller for 8 months with no issues. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KMA6EAM/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

Fuming - About Ready to Hang it Up

This may be a dumb suggestion, but it has happened to me. When I was taking mash temperatures I was taking temperature of the liquid surrounding my bag (BIAB). I thought I was in the perfect temp range. I was always was confused about why my temps would fluctuate so much more than other peoples...
