12 hour brew day from hell!!

Nothing, it's a cheat used by people that don't want to spend 5 dollars on a feeler gauge that gets you in the ballpark

12 hour brew day from hell!!

Mill looser or slow down your recirculation rate, don't overthink it 👍

12 hour brew day from hell!!

You were circulating your mash to quickly for your grist, you can't mill real tight on a recirculating setup or you will get poor, non consistent efficiency and stuck/compacted mashes

    3-Vessel vs Single-Vessel Electric opinions

It's all about batch size, if your only brewing 5-10 gallons and don't mind dealing with bags, pullys etc biab is a great way to brew. Anything bigger then that a traditional mash setup is ideal.

    Buying Beer As A Homebrewer

Some people prefer variety, drinking the same few beers gets boring after awhile. Give it some time and you will see the same

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

Just a heads-up if you have the proper cooling setup and use the device as intended you won't need any filter's etc regards of how many hops you add. You will need the racking arm, prv as well as the ability to cold crash. Ensure that you leave the racking arm facing down during fermentation to...

In praise of Auber Customer Support

I also got mine on a sale. I think it was actually 20% off when I got mine

    Stir plate suggestions?

I've had mine since they came out and I've never noticed anything close to shoddy about it. Never had a issue. It works excellent. The case is very stable even with a 5l flask. I've had a few different ones with mediocre results previously. I guess to summarize I've had mine for a long time and...

    eHerms - low efficiency

This is the method I typically use however on my set-up this method requires a faster flow rate to quickly overcome the initial temp drop when the grain is added. If I mill tightly at say .030 I can't flow fast enough without channeling/ compacting the grain bed. I find .040 works best with this...

    eHerms - low efficiency

If you have a sight glass on your mlt the level will drop when you start circulating if your flow rate is to fast for your grist etc. Obviously this isn't a very scientific way but it will get you in the ballpark and avoid channeling/ compacting the grain bed. As Augie mentioned with your...

    eHerms - low efficiency

Disregard what I suggested in that case. I assumed you were using a electric setup. Cheers

    eHerms - low efficiency

Great point and a great option if you have a 50amp back to back setup or are on gas but from the time I spent on kals site when I built my system majority only have a 30 amp setup that can only fire the hlt or bk one at a time and therefore can't really do that. Cheers

    eHerms - low efficiency

It's your dough in process that matters for the flow rate on a herms setup as the hlt causes some specific limitations that aren't there on a rims set-up like I believe Augie uses. Are you planning to heat the strike water to your desired mash temp then dough in and use the herms to maintain...

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

Yes I have my cf15 in a stand up freezer on a wood shelf. It's excellent. I also have wheels on the freezer and have rolled it around full on occasion. Can't get a better easier cooling/heating solution. Cheers

    Brewie

Another good insurance is adding rice hulls especially when using oats, wheat etc. You may even find just adding rice hulls with your regular grains increases the efficiency also. Cheers
