Moving from propane to eBIAB - talk me out of it (or into it)

So for your first point, I'm a big fan of either using the time to hook up the rest of the hoses for my setup and an extra round of sanitizing my cold side. But I also use the time to build my recipes for my next brew day, prep bottles or kegs, or just clean the area where I store all my gear...

Moving from propane to eBIAB - talk me out of it (or into it)

Yeah so the previous system had propane and used the hellfire from blichmann. I found with electricity, because there is less in terms of losses to the environment, that I could heat my strike water faster. The 3kw induction hob heats 30L of water (~7.5 gals) from 65 to 160 in ~40 minutes. I...

Moving from propane to eBIAB - talk me out of it (or into it)

I built a single vessel eBIAB system because of space concerns and would highly recommend it. I use an induction heater (3KW Buffalo induction hob), a basic rims tube for maintaining mash temperature, and control the heating elements with the inkbird controller sold by Bobby at BrewHardware. It...

Has Anyone Welded Bayou Classic Kettles?

I just did something similar over the weekend. I've got a 6 gal bayou classic, fittings from BrewHardware, their pull through tool, silver solder, and flux. Made the hole, used the recommended hole bit and successfully added the tri clamp ferrule. Silver soldering was stupid easy, even using a...

    Which inkbird controller and why

Inkbird IPB-16, less than a $100 and can control up to 15A. I use a 4500W Element @120V and my march pump but you could use a 1650 and something smaller for sure.

    NEIPA Timeline Advice Requested

I've brewed several NEIPAs so far and the standard procedure I use is 5 days at 68F for anything above 16P, then perform Diacetyl rest for 2 days at 72 and then cold crash the beer. I usually only dry hop once at 48 hrs. I've tried 24 and 72, 24 hours resulted in a volcano of activity and 72...

    Trouble with the trub

I brew 10 gallon batches and after transfer, via plate chiller, to ported carboys I let everything sit for about an hour. At that point I transfer to two new carboys and oxygenate the wort and pitch the yeast. I do that to reuse the yeast and keep it very pure. Otherwise take it all especially...

    Glycol Temp Control Set Up

Love the build and the use of the aquarium chiller, much safer and efficient than adjusting an old air conditioning unit. Quick question on what drill bits you used for all of the plastic and then the actual hose style you used. Thanks!

Building BrewPi... is my plan obsolete?

Hey Fuzze how goes the struggle to make this work with glycol? I patiently check BrewPi for updates but it seems for now the best bet is the Pi with an Adruino (I'm thinking of using the Leonardo board) thoughts? Edit: I should include that I'm thinking of using one to take a temp input and open...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Quick question, hoping to not sound to noobish, but how capable would this system be at monitoring multiple vessels? Cheers

Help: Partial ferment ended up in bottle

Worst case scenario you made a pseudo steam beer ;)

    What should I brew next?

Belgian beers smell fantastic while they ferment :) and neighbors and significant others like them too

    FG: 1.001 - not a hydrometer issue

Certain yeasts (saison yeasts in particular) routinely go that low. I ended around 1.003. Hope it tastes good! Dry beers are a favorite of mine! Feel free to send some my way if you're overly worried ;)

16 minutes to chill 11 gallons

Love my Jaded Hydra IC. Managed 11 gallons in 10 or so minutes the other day, definitely getting colder outside but significantly better than many plate chillers I've seen other people use. You just end up using a bunch more water

    Blichmann Hellfire Burner?

I've used mine three times now, significantly quieter and more efficient. I've done several 10 gallon batches with it as well. I will say the leg extensions are nice for a tiered setup. However, you can't use the heat shield or the portion that helps you center the kettle. If/when I get pumps I...

First 10 gallon batch tell me your mistake so I don't make it too

I will concur with the more propane comment. Did an 11 gallon batch of a Belgian Pale Ale on Saturday and hit all my numbers at 83% which was slightly higher than average (OG 1.050). Everything will take longer, its much more sparge water and water in the boil kettle. Cooling was a breeze due to...

    New from Southeast Louisiana

The guys at LA Homebrew are awesome in BR. I would recommend joining one of the several home brew clubs in the area too. One thing to consider for SE Louisiana is ground water temperature during the summer. It made chilling with a DIY 50ft immersion chiller painfully slow. Had to upgrade it.
