Deceitful dextrose product? Not 100% dextrose?

@Iggles , the dextrose you get from homebrew suppliers is dextrose monohydrate, which is purified and crystallized D-dextrose and also contains one molecule of water (H2O) of crystallization. What this means is that the water is hydrogen-bound to the D-dextrose as a part of the crystallization...

    Grainfather!!

I don’t remember how many screws on the back, but FYI there are two screws under the Mylar mask on the face of the control box. You need to use a heat gun to melt the glue and gently pry up the mask without ruining it. When done, scrape off the glue and re-glue the mask down with something like...

    Grainfather!!

I would say no on the dielectric geese because it is not electrically conductive. You just need to replace the receptacle with a higher quality one

    Grainfather!!

jlinz, LOL. Ignoring the problem will work great until the controller catches on fire. If you're lucky, the controller will short and trip your home's circuit breaker and all you'll get is a bit of smoke or melting plastic aroma. Worst case scenario you have a fire extinguisher on hand and nearby.

    E-BIAB Build with a twist

I'm really excited for this series. I'm not sure I'd call 11 gal a "small" system (7 gal nominal batch size?), but perhaps when compared to 20 gal kettles it is. Certainly not when compared to a 2.5 gal batch size system. Are you going to publish a parts list and cost at the end? I'm interested...

    DIY 120v eBIAB Controller Help

@BeardedBrews, those powerCON connectors look slick, but would they work for 120V/20A? Would you mind commenting on this, please? While the Neutrik NAC3FA (blue) connector says it is rated for 20A, it can only accept wire up to 14AWG, and as I understand it I would need 12AWG in open air (or...

PLEASE let the Northern Brewer buy-out be a hoax!

Very few people who are alive have experienced the brunt of real monopoly power. AB Inbev is not a monopoly because the retail market is defined as alcoholic beverages. If you don't like the selection or price of beer, then you can drink wine, whiskey and other spirits that are too numerous...

PLEASE let the Northern Brewer buy-out be a hoax!

OK, so Northern Brewer is my LHBS. I drive up, and they've changed to signage to a tasteful red and white motif, which is the only noticeable change since the takeover. The only malts left in the grain area were 6-row, 2-row, and flaked rice, so I picked up a sack of each. I noticed that they're...

    Yeast Propagation

    > Makes you wonder how effective adding DME (glucose) to a yeast starter DME is not glucose. You may be thinking of dextrose, aka corn sugar, which is just glucose. Dried Malt Extract contains all of substances in beer wort, except water, including maltose, maltotriose, dextrins, and minerals.
