    Cost of CO2?!?

They told me it was a liability issue. Kids would be up and down the isles shooting at each other. Not saying I believed them, just that's what I was told.

    Help me build an E-HERMS

I made some keggles up for my herms system only to immediately find I was limited to 6 gal max on high point brews. If boiled carefully average 10 gal brews were doable though. I'll still use the smaller system after seriously upgrading but by itself I had a hard time keeping up with mine and...

I Got The Draggin Ass Cold Crash Blues

There we go! 34.8F and it only took 2-1/2 days. I think that's too long. I can put my fermenter on wheels, park it in front of the A/C and surround it with a insulated shroud. That'll probably cut that time in half. It's been warm out. I measured a temp of 90F when I started chilling. Turned...

I Got The Draggin Ass Cold Crash Blues

So I crashed my ale yesterday (attempted anyway) and I'm struggling to get to, and maintain 34F. It'll get there eventually. Since last night I t's been steadily dropping. It'll likely hit 34F tonight. I'll have to re-figure this. Currently my 40 gal fermente is holding 25 gal. of a two hearted...

Temperature readings vary stick vs laser

A man who wears two watches seldom knows what time it is. If you need to verify your temp gauge I'd recommend using a gauge that is traceable to NIST standard. I keep a dial thermometer around just for this purpose. It doesn't really do much good if you have no calibration ability to the gauge...

What All Grain Method Do You Use?

I use herms 3 vessel keggles for smaller batches 5-10 gal. and a two vessel system for 25-30 gal. batches. I really like the simplicity of my single barrel system. Same amount of cleanup and triple the finished product. The

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

25g of a two hearted ale clone. I'll be dry hopping this tomorrow. Hope to have it kegged in another week or so.

    % of Glycol to Water

The main issue I find in not using glycol to maintain say 67F is the tendency for lines to freeze during the circulation down time. Say I'm cooling my hex fluid to 45F to maintain a decent medium, if I put the probe in my hex this will cause lines to freeze. Adding glycol will prevent this...

    % of Glycol to Water

I'll temporarily be using my fermentation freezer to chill a drum of water/ propylene grycol mixture and run it through my new conical's coil to hold temps and crash cool when ready. I plan to fill the drum with approx. 8 gal. total. From what I've read this will take a glycol ratiio of 32%. I'm...

What came in the mail for you today?

    Couple gallons of glycol.

    FTSs Brewtech Glycol Chiller

Can you provide a little more info on the chiller you reference? I'm looking for something to use on my single barrel. Yours sounds like the ticket to me. For now I'm juggling in the mid temps. I wish the weather would go one way or the other.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed a two hearted ale. 1/2 barrel to the keg and another 5 or so gallons to bottle. It went into the fermenter yesterday.

    Flagpole

I'm in Mi. and have a lot of wind at my place. I encased 12"x4' of concrete using one of those cardboard type cylinders from a box store. I set anchor bolts as my alum. pole had a base plate. That 4' has worked out just fine. I assume you plan to bury the pole 5'? What type of soil do you...

What I did for beer today

I cleaned all day. Ran the washer on my kegs and fermenters then hosed and scrubbed and squeegeed the floor. Put away tools, barrels and everything else that was out of place. What a day!
