    Growing hops on a arbor

Yes. You can grow hops almost anywhere. The need to string hops up on a very tall structure has almost everything to do with getting optimal production and utilizing the growing land to it's greatest extent. And having the best possible bines to feed through a picking machine. Commercial...

    DIY Hop Trellis

It's not just the weight, it's a geezly big bloody sail that catches the wind. TeeJo

Too Late to Start for Next Year?

I have planted root cuttings (too ugly and disfigured to call them Rhizomes) in late Aug, early Sept, up here in BC and they did fine. Go for it. Mulch them in and generally try not to love them to death. TeeJo

    Help Identifying Nutrient Deficiency

How much water and how much fertilizer have they been getting? I am of limited help as far as techie type details, as my five sets of plants (pairs of crowns) are all doing very well on natural dirt with pretty minimal attention from me. They are taking over like triffids. Consider the...

    3rd year plant help

Me, I'd leave it alone to grow. You have a plant that was both bucked off to move it, as well as busy trying to establish itself in a new location where it will no longer be rootbound. Let it run and watch without getting involved. But I don't get all hand-wringy over my gardening. Do try to...

Anyone in Las Vegas with Spare/Extra Rhizomes?

And, while rhizomes are convenient, a cutting or three dropped into a bottle of water and ignored on the windowsill for a while, will usually root quite readily and give you essentially the same results, a new plant. Or several. TeeJo

Hop - Dog tags (name tags)

Too flash for the likes of me! I snip a section out of a beer or soda can, write the name on the inside surface with a ballpoint pen, and staple it to the post that the hop is on. I have a map, sketched out in one of my day books, that shows them too.

My plants have hit maturatiy....now what

I have 8 mature crowns of varying sizes right now, and I have never bothered to cut back or mine for rhizomes, other than to rototill around the garden plot they are in. I dunno how all you compulsively tidy types do it, preventing your plants from taking over like triffids, but I CAN attest...

Is it ok to have more than one bine per rope?

Commercially, they need to do a lot of stuff that matters not a whit to a home grower. Same sort of differences you see if you take all your info from commercial chicken growers, rather than back yard chicken people. They'll be fine.

I may have jumped the gun, now what?

Find a convenient spot and plug 'em into the ground. Move them to where you want them, in Spring. TeeJo

What type of hops are these???

Welcome to the suck! :) You can't really tell by looking, other than to maybe (maybe!) cross compare to others that you have in hand. Short of actually paying to have an analysis done, you are pretty much guessing all the way to the brew house. You, and, like as not, about half the guys and...

Has anyone tried growing their own barley?

Fully modified, means the starches have been as fully converted to sugars as they will. Once the acrospire goes over the length indicating that the seed has been fully modified, it is beginning to consume those sugars, to create it's plant. That is what 'over modified' is. You are attempting...

    Hops from green house

No, pictures won't help. Pretty much all the varieties look about the same, at various points in their development. Sometimes, you can tell the variety if you have one beside it to compare, grown under the same circumstances,, but other than that, visual ID is a crapshoot. What will eliminate...

    ghetto brew setups?...

I dunno if it gets more 'ghetto', than the garbage can my brother and I bought, to make cherry wine in. A couple hundred pounds of over-ripe cherries in boxes, was the main impetus. It actually turned out pretty good, though not all that strong. Tasted great mixed with a splash of Diet Coke...

    Fxing crack in keggle

Agreed! Silver solder. Clean, use the appropriate flux and enough heat, and you should be able to whiz the surface off to the point that it would take near genius to actually find any signs of the crack, and no risk of cooties growing under the edge of a scab of JB Weld epoxy. TeeJo

    water cooler Refrigeration package uses?

I checked the labeling on the two machines, and they both had little of use to anyone except a service tech (low and high side pressures). No real info regarding capacities as far as a BTU or whatever value. the compressor and the radiator on the back side, look very similar in size to those on...

    Least vigorous hops

There ARE a couple varieties out there, bred to grow on short trellis systems, like, 9 feet short. Do some searching for Dwarf hops and you should find what you need. TeeJo
