What beer/homebrew blogs/magazines do you read?

Zymurgy. Used to get Brew Your Own, but felt it got quite repetitive, so opted out a couple of years ago...

American Wheat Beer Zest Bomb - Citrus Wheat Pale Ale

Just brewed this today. Was looking for a great summertime beer, and this looks perfect. Citrus season is pretty well past, so I had to settle for 9 heirloom oranges, 2 limes, 3 lemons and 2 red grapefruit. The wort smelled amazing after the flameout zest-rest. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

    Boil Volume Question

If you vary the boil volume of an extract recipe you will affect the hop utilization, resulting in a (potentially large) variation in the bitterness of the resulting beer. Hop utilization is affected by the gravity of the liquid in which the hops are boiling. Higher gravity yields less...

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

Brewed this the day after Thanksgiving. (You can have your Black Friday, I'll take my Brew Friday, thank you very much...) I think the LHBS only gave me a half-pound of Caraaroma (or the one they have has a MUCH lower SRM) -- my color was pretty pale going into the fermenter, and pretty pale...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Although it's not "my type of beer", and the samples smelled a bit too much like BMC beers to give me much hope, I understand now how this is such a loved and brewed recipe. So, first, thanks BierMuncher! Second all grain, brewed exactly as spelled out on Page 1 (5 Gallon version). Stuck...

Grow your own Hops - Backyard Hops Trellis Design

I'm looking at using this design for my new hop plants, but I'm confused at how you slid 1" galvanized pipe into 1" PVC pipe sleeve -- trying that in the home store showed they are identical in size... Did you use a different diameter PVC by chance? If so, did the "wiggle room" between the...

Safale US-04 yeast = funky flavor?

The off flavor I've had (both with Nottingham and US-04) was a sort of sour-ish aftertaste (but not like a good sour -- just a "whiff of vinegar" sour). I have had much better success using my same setup with US-05. So far, I think it has to do with fermentation temps, and US-04 being a...

National Homebrewer's Conference - HomeBrewTalk Giveaway - Open to All!

Just completed the survey. Hopefully headed to the Washington [State] Brewer's Festival at some point during the weekend. Tapping my first-ever self-brewed beer on Sunday (my Father's Day gift to myself). Planning for brew #2 for the following weekend.
