    Icebeer - Unintentional

thanks, checking the links out. Spring/summer APA beers are in the pipeline now but I can see a beer called POLAR VORTEX in the late 2021 - early 2022 brew schedule depending on the weather. Since it will be concentrated I am thinking noble hops, maybe Saaz, (Polar Urquell?)

    Icebeer - Unintentional

About 3 weeks ago we had a really cold snap. Unknown to me the keg in the garage fridge must have partially froze. It still poured, slowly, but the beer was really good. And I mean really good, confirmed by taste and the "brain" ABV meter, if you know what I mean. Anyways it has warmed up a...

    Keg Dry-hopping Technique?

I brew beer and grow hops (Centennial, Chinook and Comet). Neither are special activities on this forum. Many of my recipes are essentially the same APA with minor flips on the late boil hop additions depending on what I want for aroma. When the batch is ready to keg sometimes I leave the prior...

How low can you go? (outside temps)

I kinda half-brewed outside 2 weeks ago , strike/sparge inside, boiled outside but watched from inside...

    Homegrown hops lacking flavor

Your hops look very good and are absolutely bursting with lupalin, and your harvest process is exactly what i do and have had similar disappointing brewing results. This year I picked the Cascades and Centennials when they are ugly with brown tips and "over-ripe" to see if that makes a...

    2016 Hop Harvest Totals

20oz dry Centennial from 2nd year plants, got 10oz last year. Yet to pick Cascades and Sterlings. Wet spring and summer so fought various wilts all season. 18.6 + 20 = 38.6

What draws you to a new craft brewery?

Decent food and distinctive beer. Ale Asylum in Madison usually has 3 or 4 experimental beers going, some which I had 2 years ago and now are solid staples. I like to say its like seeing Michael Jordan play in HS, great player as a kid and hall of fame as a pro.

    White space ramblings

16oz of citra to go with the 20lbs of grain, Zombie clone on the docket, might do them same day with US05 and Nottingham to see which is better.

    White space ramblings

Just a lament, the beer fridge is down to about a case pf assorted homebrews - (aka white space). I slacked off keeping the pipeline full. But I bottled 2 cases today and dry hopped another 5 gallons. Plus i have 20lbs of grain for next weekend. Hope to avoid the purchase of beer, almost a...

Pfister Pfarms - A hobby hopyard

thanks for the link on hops analysis, it has been bookmarked. You also answered a few other questions I had but didn't want to be too forward. A harvest beer will reduce the drying and packaging/storage needs. I now know what a basement oast is... I still think you will surprised with the...

Pfister Pfarms - A hobby hopyard

I can already tell you are going to have a monster harvest, maybe not this year but soon. All the conditions are perfect. Good soil, full sun, drip irragation, and full sun (yup said that one twice). Just wondering if you plan to get the %AA's tested since you will have hundreds of ounces to...

Hop Trellis Position + Amazing MS Paint Skills

I second what gbx said above about sunlight. Where you live the summer sunrises/sunsets are nearly NNE and NNW so the house is going to block the morning sun and the garage is going to block the late afternoon sun. My best plants get all day sunlight.

Location x 3, where to move my hop garden to? Dividing and moving my murdered hops.

gotta ask, with a name like kilohertz and access to #4 ACSR and probably used cedar poles you must work for a electric utility? Looks like you even guyed/anchored the end poles. I work for a elect co-op owned warehouse in WI so recognize all the hardware. Mike (Snowcreek)

    Guerrilla Hop-fare

Besides the other points above unless the hops get full day sunshine (14+ summertime hours) they will not do well. I tried doing what you described and trees shaded the plants for the first and last thirds of the day. Those plants will be moved next spring.

    Grain Prices going up?

NB's DeadRinger AG was $25.45 in August (no yeast or priming sugar) same is $37.45 now. I did contact them and they said they would review

    Grain Prices going up?

My usual online supply source raised some of AG kit prices 50%, citing poor conditions for the Montana barley harvest. After some google research looks like the Canadian harvest was good so maybe it is just a blip.
