    757 Home Brewers

I'm interested. Not brewing as much as I'd like these days, but still knocking out a batch a month or so. Prepping for the O'Conners competition in November right now. Hit me up with the details.

    Too much wort in bucket?

Temperature, wort + water not completely mixed in your sample, uncalibrated hydrometer, etc. There's a ton of reasons why your OG reading may not be accurate. I'd dump a little bit to give yourself a little more headspace and then pitch your yeast -- worst case, you have a very light stout...

Anybody know a good place to fill a CO2 tank in Virginia Beach VA area?

I'm looking to get a 5# refill today -- any idea how much they charge? They're a little farther away from me than Arced, but if its worth an extra 5-10 min drive I'll head out that way. Thanks!

Anybody know a good place to fill a CO2 tank in Virginia Beach VA area?

Was planning on running out to Fire Services this week to get my 5# tank refilled and when I went to call him the phone # has been disconnected. Its been 2-3 months since my last refill. Anyone know if he's still in business? The owner is a great guy -- crossing my fingers he's just late on...

Racking a wheat beer on top of frozen packaged fruit

A couple notes from the Sour Cherry Wheat I did. SOURING PROCESS: I used White Labs WLP665 and kettle soured 1 gal of wort for 72 hours. This did not give nearly as much "sour" flavor in the final 5-gal batch as I imagined it would. Next time around I'm definitely either going to increase...

Racking a wheat beer on top of frozen packaged fruit

Just did this with 6 lbs of frozen cherries for a sour cherry wheat. To be sure everything was sanitized and also to help release some of the juices/break down the cherries I put them in 2 gallon bags and let them sit in boiling water for a good 15-20 min, dumped the contents into my widemouth...

    Keezer Carb/Pressurization Issues

Sounds like some white space somebody should tackle. Might start putting together some notes as I learn and throw something out there for a sticky. I've got A TON written up from what I went through piecing together the components for my system.

    Keezer Carb/Pressurization Issues

Scalped a tube with a functional gasket off of a spare keg, reinstalled, and hooked it back up. Poured a beer and now it looks good to go. Good thing I had a couple empty legs sitting around. Just need to order some spare gaskets now. Thanks again for the help Day Trippr!

    Keezer Carb/Pressurization Issues

Did not carb up at a higher pressure (Cider was already attached and they run off the same pressure) Just disconnected the out tube...I suppose the gasket shouldn't look like this wound up in the keg's QD housing?

    Keezer Carb/Pressurization Issues

Thanks a ton for the list. Gonna go PPP out the tube now, check for clog and reinstall to see if that does the trick.

    Keezer Carb/Pressurization Issues

Hey HomebrewTalk Crew! Hoping someone with some more experience with a Kegging system can provide some insight w/ the issues I've having. Problem: I have a keg of American Pale Ale that is pouring 90% foam out of my Keezer set-up. Its been set up in the system for 2 weeks now and has shown...

    Virginia Northern Virginia Moving Sale

If the Johnson Temp Controller is still around I'll snag it from you. Where are you located in NOVA - my parents live in Woodbridge and could probably grab it from you in person. Otherwise I'll pay for shipping to VB.

    Head Consistency - Possible Culprits?

Lol...I literally spent 10 minutes after I wrote up my original post trying to figure out how to reword my title in a way that wouldn't get me 2 pages of jokes before some actual info. Thanks for the quick responses! Pumpkin -- Didn't think about that. I'll have to look into what...

    Head Consistency - Possible Culprits?

So I brewed up a 5-Gal batch of Imperial Pumpkin Ale a few months ago and it was a huge success with friends/family. While I absolutely love the flavor, I'd like to see if I can modify the amount and consistency of the head it has when poured out of the bottle. The only way I can describe it...

Close to bottling. Did I mess up?

Rule #1 of Homebrewing -- 99% of problems are solved by playing the waiting game. Both the before and after pictures look fine to me. Completely normal to have a little something floating up top and around the edges. As for when to transfer, 3-weeks in the primary is probably fine for most of...

    757 Home Brewers

I've been checking out the websites for the local brew clubs (7CB, CASK, etc.) and can't really find much on there in terms of how active they are. Anyone on this thread a member of one of the clubs? I live out in Town Center VB and would like to try and start getting together with people to...

Virginia 8 tap Perlick tower /faucets

This still available? I'm in Virginia Beach and already have a keezer set-up at my place, but a buddy of mine is about to move into a house with a garage and would probably jump at this in a heartbeat. If he doesn't want it I might pick it up just to go with a bigger set-up. Feel free to PM me.

Haven't been to a meet up yet, but would love to try organize one in the near future. Maybe sometime in October as fall starts to set in so we can break out the seasonal samplers? My buddy and I will be bottling a Vanilla Cream Stout tomorrow and I've got a half a case of Bourbon Oak Porter...

Various Items 5 gallon all grain NJ

$30 does seem rather high for that burner. That was through USPS? Most of the shipping I do is through UPS out of my office and I utilize my company's corporate account, which offers significantly discounted rates. Might be able to piggy-back similarly off of your employer. Other than that...
