    BIAB and no-boil questions

With smaller batches, you could just put each pot in an ice bath in the sink. That usually cools things down fast enough with smaller boils.

    BIAB and no-boil questions

My suspicion is that you would not get good results with only boiling part of the wort, since the boil does more than just isomerize the bittering hops. The boil is important for volatilizing some compounds which you do not want in your fermenter as they can lead to off flavors. More...

    Experimental Brewing podcast Episode 12

Thanks for the update here about the podcast. I am a regular listener and have thoroughly enjoyed every episode. I had already listened to episode 12 before reading this post and just wanted to drop one bit of feedback. Something was apparently off with the recording, because over large parts...

    Official Pitched Stir Bar Count

I did it for the first time with my last brew. Still happily sitting at the bottom of the fermenter at day 10 of a Kolsch fermentation. Have a strong mental note in place so that I remember it after I rack to keg and clean out the fermenter.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

This weekend I will be brewing my BIAB adaptation of Bee Cave's Robust Porter (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=56768) Been looking forward to trying this one out for a while and with winter coming on, I thought it would be a good time to have some porter on hand.

    Protein rest needed for Roggenbier?

Thanks for the link. Since I have the grains for my recipe on order already, I will try it out with a future brew (already bookmarked it in Chrome). One of the advantages of a smaller batch size is more frequent brewing.

    Protein rest needed for Roggenbier?

Changed it to 0.5 lbs 60L crystal and added 0.15 lb Chocolate malt for the color. Upped the 2-row to 2 lbs and the rye to 1.6 lbs to keep the OG the same.

    Protein rest needed for Roggenbier?

Hmm...I will adjust the amount of Crystal then. Was trying to match color according to Brewers Friend, but I may do that instead by changing the Lovibond rather than the amount. Thanks for the input.

    Protein rest needed for Roggenbier?

Would rice hulls be needed for BIAB?

    Protein rest needed for Roggenbier?

I plan to brew a Roggenbier this weekend, which will use the following grain profile (2.5 gallon batch): 1.5 lb rye malt 1.5 lb 2-row 1.25 lb 60L crystal 1 lb wheat malt In my reading and searching the forums, I haven't found a good answer as to whether a protein or saccharification...
