    Yeast gravity change

Thanks for the replies. Poured spent beer off this morning, still tasted like sweet wort. Not a solid yeast cake at the bottom either. Think may have ruptured the yeast cell while freezing becaused didn't mix the tubes properly. Added another L of wort & placed back on stirplate, hope for the...

    Yeast gravity change

Hi all Made a starter from a frozen yeast. I am unsure of its health as I forgot to shake the vials to mix up the yeast & glycerine before submerging in alcohol & freezing It's been on stirplate for 36 hrs. No sign of fermentation, colour change, thickness, krausen ect. I checked gravity &...

Maintaining A Healthy Yeast Bank Long Term

Thanks for the responses. Want to make sure I understand this. Do you think the 30 tubes of yeast are going to be alright or too weak? I guess a starter will be the test. Do you usually just fill the ten tubes & dump the rest? Thanks again

Maintaining A Healthy Yeast Bank Long Term

Did anyone else get way more yeast than expected? Ended up making a 1200ml starter instead of 1000, yeast was on stir plate for 48 hrs. I got 30 tubes of yeast & probably dumped another 100 ml of yeast down the drain. I crashed & dumped off the stale beer twice before filling the tubes. Could of...

    Yeast Harvesting: A Novel Approach?

Harvested a white labs last week, worked great. Thank you My closest brew store is 3.5 hrs away & fermentis dry yeast is about $4.50 a packet. Could we do the same with a dry yeast & would it be worthwhile?

    Yeast starter

Cool, kinda what I figured but didn't want to take any chances with my first all grain biab batch. It smelt fine when I put it in the fridge.

    Yeast starter

Hi guys I made a starter a couple of weeks ago, stepped it up after a couple of days but then brew day was delayed. It sat on the counter about a week before cold crashing it. Do you think it will be ok to use? Thanks

    Immersion Chiller Tutorial Video

Chiller came out pretty shiny after about a 8hr soak. Used it for the 1st time the other day & it chilled the wort to 70 F in about 20 min. Thanks for the great vid Bobby

    Immersion Chiller Tutorial Video

Thanks Bobby, Did you just soak it or boil it? My brew pot isn't tall enough to cover the whole chiller so boiling is out until I get my keggle built but I could soak it in a 5 gal bucket. Keith

    Immersion Chiller Tutorial Video

Your video is great. Finished my chiller the other day, can't wait to try it out. I soaked it in PWB & hot water for a couple of hours & then rinsed it. I read in Palmer' book that you should soak it in vinegar or starsan before the 1st use, not sure if it's straight vinegar or vinegar &...

    Immersion Chiller

I'm using Idophor for now but will try StarSan next. So like 1 cup of vinegar to 5 gal of water? Can you just soak this or do you have to boil it? The reason I'm asking is because my new chiller is too tall for my boiling pot. It fits nicely in a 5 gal plastic fermenting bucket though:)

    Immersion Chiller

Hi all, I built an chiller today & soaked it in PBW for a couple of hours & then rinsed. I was reading in Palmer's book that it should be cleaned with acetic or Phosphoric acid once before the first use. Is this necessary & if so what concentrations are recommended? Thank, Keith
